2 observations i have.

1. If this had been the coalition withdrawing funding this thread would be 3 times as long with people blowing up deluxe.

2. In a civilised and democratic society like ours it is up to the government to fund all sectors of society , not just health and education. Its what sets us apart from socialism.

rugby league is to some people what Opera is to others. And to withdraw funding in the centenary year is a low act.

but have the completely withdrawn all funding? no.

just one late committment made by howard.

Well how about you try and raise 10million...that was meant to be cash in the bank..yet Rudd the moron decides no thanks.

So the new labor govt has to meet every committment made by the previous govt?

Perhaps if you want to educate the masses, you should start with some spelling and grammer lessons for yourself.
I dont need to type accurately to prove you are missing the point.

Exactly, I'd have less of a problem if he gave us half (5 mill)..as it is a bet each way. Instead he rather spends money on the Stolen Generation, health (which is fine), and giving computers to every fruitloop around!

No, but what about half? That would be fair to be honest. It is not that hard to get 5 mill in the budget!

no but they directly withrew funding relating to the centenary year.

thats a low act plain and simple. We are not talking about some random 10 million here. The money was to be put towards a hall of fame celebrating the contribution Rugby league and its players have made.

as i said , a low act.

Umm, no. Socialism is all about big government, about large amounts of government spending in all sectors.

In the U.S.S.R a huge amount of government money was spent on sport. Why else do you think they were so incredibly successful at the Olympics?

No.

They failed to take up a promise made by John Howard.

You may have a case if Rudd had matched the committment himself.

The NRL should have sought an assurance during the election campaign that Rudd would match Howards promise. Did they do and get that?

Again I ask, why can't Rudd give 5 million. It is not going to kill the country. Take 5 million out of his crap education policy. So that means that every kid would still get his silly laptop anyway!

Sorry Peter Costello, perhaps since you've got all the answers on our economy you can tell us. Well????
think of it this way, if you can actually think for a moment without killing yourself.

Wages in 1991 were lower than Wages in 2006. House prices were also lower hence the comparitive lower mortgages. But 18 % of a relative amount is still greater than 7% of a greater amount when yuo factor the cost of living, wages, inflation and depreciation. Not to menttion property values.

Let me give you an example. My first home in 1991 cost me 115,000. i was earning 40K. My mortgage was 100K. Thats 90%. My repayments per month at 18 percent were 80% of my wages after tax,...roughly i cant remeber the exact amount.

Today, My 3rd home is worth 1.2 million. My mortage is under 1/3 of this. My repayments are almost the same monthly....and I earn 4 times more now.my Salary is 4 times what it was in 91. Now tell me when was I better off?

But why should he partially meet every promise Howard made?

Did he promise to match it during the election?

Can someone who knows how to do it make a poll for this issue. Seeing as it's politics and politics is all about democracy it's popularity that counts. Give us a poll and we'll see what fans think in black and white.
