IMO the players involved should be still be dropped for this debacle and not play out the rest of the season. If the internal investigation finds that they have broken the player conduct code, I would have no problem seeing these players punted from the club.

ofcourse the complaint was dropped ... having it off with one footballer than having 2 more join in then a 4th to film it can't do anything good for your reputation

....or maybe there was no case?

I think I pretty much said that .... most likely in my opinion is that after looking at what they had the police indicated to her that any prosecution was unlikely to succeed, and based on that she agreed not to pursue the complaint.

We've all now heard the myriad of theories about what happened & whos at fault.

*Waits now for thousand & one pure speculative theories on the reasons why we now wont know what happened due to the dropping of the complaint & whos fault it is that the complaint has now been dropped.

They're utter dickheads, and I'd have been happy to have them dropped even without a police charge, regardless of the importance of the game.

sharko:
It's nice of you not to paint all Broncos fans with the same brush, so as a courtesy, we promise not to consider all Sharks fans illiterate morons because of the impression you've made in this thread.

Goulies, speak for yourself mate. I make no such promise.

Excellent, woman withdraws complaint all over as should happen.

In another case woman never makes complaint person charged.

If the reports are true, i'm glad that they are in the clear. Not necessarily for them personally, but primarily for the Broncos, and of course Wayne, Darren and Tonie.

This takes the edge of the situation as criminal charges are factored out, but it most certainly does not eliminate concerns and dissapointment as to why we are at this point in the first place. The fact that despite warnings, and just plain common sense, these players have risked so much for them personally and others. They put a proud brand and a proud group of people under a negative media spotlight that may have - and still could have - a serious impact.

I personally would have prefered them to be stood down, but i'd hope at the very least that there is some serious inhouse disciplinary action taken, that stricter guidlines come in to place to protect both the club and the players welfare, and that lessons are learned and we can rest assured that we won't be placed in this situation again. I have faith that the club will make the right decsions.

These 3 owe everyone concerned a top shelf performance on the weekend. They've let a lot of good people down and picked an incredibly awful time to do it. That still makes my blood boil to a degree.

Hopefully now we can make positive progress towards this weekends match.

Edit - reports proven to be false. Nevertheless, my general points regarding the clowns still stand.

anyone who thinks the broncos would offer her a settlement and risk her saying no and exposing them is kidding themselves

Just highlighting the double standards shorty, and as you can see by your own comment they exist.

There is a difference, and I'm sure you'll never see it but - Police had gathered sufficient evidence to charge - ie statements from witnesses, Bird's flatmate, Bird himself. There was physical evidence in the victim and her injuries, and I'm sure there was several bloodstains around the apartment.

There are no double standards here. You just wish there were.

Based on past actions of the Bronco's and using the logic that the Club would have a better brief of what actually occurred, heres a thought........

Maybe the players were not dropped as maybe there isn't any evidence they did anything wrong.

Considering a) There is no grog ban at the Bronco's. Lockyer just asked them to consider it. b) They did have the weekend off so were free to go out drinking if they wish. c)Isn't it discrimination to sack someone over there sexual preferences ie gay, bi or even those who engage in group sex?

TBH out of all the media I was more concerned with regards to the reports of them jumping the cab queue and spitting on the innocent people who had the audacity to complain then some chick who's being bunned objecting to it being filmed. At least she had some choice/responsibility with regards to the situation she found herself in.

However if I was coach/CEO the boys would still have some explaining to do over why they were so intoxicated and got themselves into this position first week into the finals. Doesn't show a great amount of commitment to club or greater cause.
I do believe these guys will have to answer in some way for the poor actions, whether made public or kept in house.

As someone else has said, maybe this culture is in some way responsible for Bennett heading elsewhere?

Fourth Brisbane Broncos player linked to alleged sex assault
September 17, 2008 12:28pm

A FOURTH Brisbane Broncos NRL star was reportedly involved in the alleged sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman in a Queensland night club, it has emerged.

Broadcaster and rugby league commentator Ray Hadley this morning told 2GB listeners a fourth player filmed the incident in the Alhambra Lounge in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.

Previously it was thought that only three players were involved.

"A fourth unnamed player filmed the incident," Hadley said. "That's when the young lady started to object."

The NRL is awaiting the outcome of a police investigation into Brisbane players Karmichael Hunt, Sam Thaiday and Darius Boyd.

A sexual harassment complaint was filed against the Brisbane trio after a booze-fuelled evening in Brisbane last Saturday.

The Broncos had flown back to Brisbane earlier in the day after being denied a night out in Sydney following their Friday night finals win over Sydney Roosters.

It was revealed the three players stayed out drinking for more than six hours after a woman complained they had sexually assaulted her in the toilet of a Brisbane nightclub.

As the club continues to bunker down during one of the biggest crises in its history, the players have told Broncos management they are innocent of any wrongdoing.

Fespite the high profile of the Broncos and its players, acting police commissioner Kathy Rynders today said it would take up several weeks for the investigation to move forward.

"We will be no more pedantic with this investigation than we are with any other investigation," she said.

"As you would imagine there were a lot of people at the nightclub on the night and there is a range of certain material and forensic evidence that we're yet to gather so it will still take a number of weeks before we're in a position to make an informed decision.

"We have to await the outcome of the forensics tests and as you would be aware we will also be viewing the CCTV and other typical evidence, and depending on the outcome of that is to what other inquiries are necessary."

Ms Rynders refused to comment on whether the players had submitted DNA samples.

"I'm not going to comment on the particularities of the investigation as it is ongoing," she said.

"They have provided an interview to police. Depending on the outcome of our other inquiries they may be required to (provide another interview) but at this stage it's too early to say."

Ms Rynders said police had held talks with Broncos management.

"I'm not aware of the exact details of that conversation as I haven't had a chance to speak with the investigating officers," she said.

"We've always found the club and the management good to deal with whenever we've needed to make any inquiries."

Meanwhile, a nightclub in inner-city West End has decided to ban football players.

Uber made headlines twice this year when two NRL players - Cronulla's Greg Bird and North Queensland's Sione Faumuina - were arrested after drinking-related incidents linked to the club.

Uber bar manager Isaac Zietek told the Courier Mail newspaper that the behaviour of some high-profile footballers had become ``progressively more disrespectful over the years''.

The Daily Telegraph has learned the 24-year-old woman had been celebrating last Saturday afternoon at a hen's party before going to the trendy Alhambra Lounge.

Police are investigating claims the woman entered the male toilets at the nightclub with the players at about 8pm and engaged in various sex acts which were recorded on a mobile phone.

The woman later left the toilet and told a friend about the alleged incident. Her parents were contacted and the incident was reported to police, who established a crime scene at the venue in McLachlan Street.

The Broncos have started their own investigation and will be looking at all aspects of the bender, which started with players meeting at the Story Bridge Hotel on Saturday afternoon.

Funny how when accusations are made. We require the poster to provide a source. Even if they just heard it on the radio.

Some guy has claimed to have heard that the charges have been dropped, yet there is no mention of that on any online source.

I doubt the charges have been dropped as 5 minutes ago, Ninemsn reported this story:

The investigation of three Brisbane Broncos players over an alleged sexual assault will be no different to any other investigation, Queensland police say.
