Well
If he’d work out that there is a place in rugby league for stadiums and great suburban grounds then I wouldn’t need to continue correcting him.

Whoa, you need to go back and re-read what I typed mate.

The only comparison to Canberra I made was the weather having nothing on GB. And I never made any other comparison to Australian teams, only that we shouldn’t be complaining about NRL prices compared to the yanks.

I think you’ve looked way too deep into my posts hey.

Sorry mate. I assumed the reference to the population of a town that sustains a team in the context of how supply and demand influence pricing was there for a reason.

P. S. Canberra needs a new stadium and Shark Park has every potential to be a long-term appropriate, boutique ground with further redevelopment.

more sense in that article then every article bandana boy has ever written in his life.
Webster is exactly right
if the reason we won't build these stadiums is cost , then stop all projects with the exception of ones building roads hospitals & schools & we don't spend a penny on anything else .

not one tax payer dollar
we can't be hypocrites now can we

I have just spent some time reading the high number of comments on that SMH article by Webster...

I would estimate 10 to 1 against....

Whether Webster is right or not, the public debate is lost I reckon and I would wager that neither ANZ or Allianz will be upgraded in the near future....

This State Govt loves to backflip... see Greyhounds and Fire Services Levy to name a few...

Webster thinks the logical thing was to redo Allianz. While repeating the SCG trust mantra of security issues. Then tries to say its a silly argument that if you support a new Allianz Stadium you are somehow in the pocket of the SCG Trust and its powerful trustees. Which is not a silly argument. Its a correct argument as seen here by Websters article who has tried to obfuscate and failed.
Webster also defended Rebecca Wilson in the past.
Wouldnt know logic if it hit up upside the head.
Shit article. Rightly torn apart in the comments.

What about as a compromise for ANZ, rip the ends up and bring them 30m in towards the field of play with 2 big double storied stands that have diagonal outer areas to meet up with the existing E and W stands? Also put a row of corporate boxes/suites inbetween the lower and upper deck. These stands don’t need to be anywhere near the height of the current E and W stands but it would give the whole stadium an ‘Allianz on steriods’ look and still be a decent overalll result for the game. Surely the general public will get on board with that as a compromise, anyone who has been there and sat in those areas knows its completley f**king horrendous a view and wouldn’t cost anymore than $200-$250mil to achieve this compromise.

I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Millenium room off a mate for the 2015 GF and the pre-match function was great and the seats that accompanied the tickets were also great (halfway up the E side right on halfway). I also sat 3/4 up the Eastern for the 2017 GF and whilst the view wasnt the greatest, it was somewhat acceptable. I sat in the northern and southern ends for the 2002 and 2012 GF’s and I may as well stayed at home and watch the f**king thing on TV. Woeful experience and I honestly think that if you rebuilt those ends it would still be a huge win for the game.

Allianz I don’t know of any cheap solution to the issues it has.

Toddles has to start playing hardball here with ANZ though. Either full development or the partial development with the ends or else agreement for the GF’s in NSW is over.

I just can’t get over how everywhere else in Oz is somewhat proud of their cities stadiums and see the benefits it brings but sydneyites/regional NSWers blow up deluxe at clearly inadequate facilities that are falling behind the rest of the country. Im no Sydney hater either as I have spent 10years of my life down there and love the place to bits but I just shake my head sometimes at some of the comments I read in the papers about the stadium situation.

Tear down and rebuild ANZ or GF is gone is the only thing the NRL should accept.

Just to add, you could take the big screens and scoreboards out and put them into the roof of the northern and southern stands like this to allow the stands to properly join one another and actually
get the screens a bit more centralised for everyone

So be it.

Brisbane/Suncorp will be rubbing its hands together in anticipation at a bid for it. Which is not what I want to see.

Me either but ANZ is terrible and needs to be rebuilt. The government committed to this and signed agreements to rebuild it, if they do not then they need to be shown that the NRL will stick to its guns. I would even goes as far as to not accept any bids from them as they have shown they are not reliable.

NSW is in the middle of a massive rebuild throughout the state, this is what you do when you have a surplus. They are rebuilding and extending hospitals all around the state, new roads are being created along with stadiums, this is what a government does.

ok yeah
its like townsville , but with most of SE QLD only a few hours away & .. no other football team in the region
the Cows would fill a 50K stadium every week under those conditions

RL fans wont travel over the harbour bridge yet you think they would drive a few hours in this scenario in their tens of thousands?

If the rebuild goes ahead, how piss poor will the GF be at the SCG. Watching aerial views of the ground for the test match it’s going to be a shit experience and they’ll be paying a premium to make up for the smaller attendance.
Greenberg and the commission have really sold out RL fans.

Maybe not such a bad thing...

The NRL will probably get a taste for moving the GF (and i think it will be great for the comp). The NSW Gov will be desperate to get it back, but will probably be in for a much less generous deal.

I dont really care about SFS (the proposal is over-kill to please the trust. a 30k joint would be fine). But the ARLC should stand firm on "No GFs until ANZ is redone"
