The word is Baird will plough about $100 million into lifting the capacity of Pirtek stadium to around 32,000 seats and sprucing up its corporate facilities.

Can anyone see the Bulldogs and Wests moving in if Parra stadium is turned into a decent stadium? NRL should be negotiating with Allianz and parra stadium to get deals that match the ANZ deal and reduce the need for clubs to play at that stadium.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that if the pitch level is dropped then the angle will be steeper

The top seats of the West/East wings would be FURTHER away....

If the pitch was lowered, the upper bowl would have to be disused and the lower bowl entirely reconstructed.

Just not worth it compared to other possible projects

As long as they changed the name back to "Cumberland Oval" to make it at least SEEM neutral...

It would get a naming rights deal with someone and probably be known as Sponsor Stadium anyway.

Obviously sponsorship is necessary...

But straight out of the blocks, when Parra Stadium is abandoned for the renovation, they should go out of their way to move the ground away from being Eels-specific. Its a bit tricky go ask Panthers/Bulldogs/Tigers/Rabbits to play their home game at Parramatta Stadium potentially against Parramatta.

Changing the stadiums geographic title would be so easy and would go a long way in removing the "Eels Stadium" image that would piss off other fans.

Considering that Wests Tigers had no problem with playing games out of the SFS (home of the Roosters), and that Parra Stadium is now called Pirtek, I don't have too much problem with playing games there. The Eels don't own the stadium, so the only benefit to them would be extra traffic through their leagues club next door.

69000 but it's 75000 for Beyern Munich games as they remove the seats behind the goals to create a standing terrace for hardcore fans.

With the QLD state election date announced today for the 31st of Jan, it's probably likely we will see an announcement on the new Townsville stadium within the next few weeks.

It would have been so much better if, during the settlement years, Victoria had taken up Soccer instead of Gaelic Football...

Stadium wise, we'd be set.

yep. We'd be more like South Africa, with separate cricket ovals/stadiums and super rectangular stadiums. f**king Victorians have a lot to answer for.

Campbell to announce funding for the Townsville Stadium today. Don't know how much but should be more than the 100 million labor pledged.
