Problem is we don't seem to be able to compete with clubs like the Roosters unless we get them young and breed them to be loyal. This quote from Iron Fist TV show is us:
"You hire people when they're young, single, looking for something to commit to, to build their lives around. Pay them twice what they're worth. It builds loyalty."

Made it into the semi's 3 years running. Having players who want to player for the Panthers, fighting of insolvency.Where have we improved? We have the same top 13. Lost 2 new internationals off the bench and added 2 Fringe FGers...

so tell me then. Who did we need to re-sign for 2019?
And there is nothing wrong with that.I think he's talking about the roster rather than the club overall. We seem to have a habit of letting experience go and promoting rookies.
It’s not just about 2019. Cap management is about looking 2 or 3 years ahead.
Thinking the way you do, is what got us in a trouble previously.

Gus says that he pays them their worth. There is a difference. How does releasing guys 12 months early solve the 2-3 years issue though?
Not one guy we have re-signed didn't have a deal for 2019. They could of stayed this year while those to take their place further develop or look for cheap bargins as guys get released elsewhere.
Gus admitted he doesn't pay minimum wage. Nor do we get guys who deals are being partially covered by their old clubs. Both those would help the cap going forward

who decides a rookies worth though?
Obviously Gus does. Corey left because he knew his game time would be lessen due to Viliame's contract extension. Moylan had to go, and so did Bryce. My point is those who were let go early, there was a great reason behind it.It's good if you nurture a core group of players into experience (For example Storm with Cronk, Smith, Slater). You'll get lots of long term success but we aren't doing that or at least not yet. Nathan and RCG are on new long term deals but we've broken a lot so far which creates a lack of confidence in contracts.

I agree Jane.
Someone posted a 'long' list earlier this season of all the players we have released early from the contracts they were on. I looked at this list and I thought it was for the most part good business by the club and good business for the players released. Had we still had some of the players we released early on our books we would not be in a position to retain some of the players we either have retained such as Kikau/Cleary or some of the players we are trying to retain/extend. Can you imagine the uproar if we lost someone like Viliame Kikau because we didn't have the funds available to resign him. Our cap management if really good we just need to unearth some young guns in key positions where we remain short of being premiership quality.
Peachey and CHN could of not been re-signed at the end of their deal. As MCKendry won't be and nothing would of changed as far as player re-signings went. They were signed for 2019. We needed the extra money for 2020 not 2019.

We may be in the market for someone for next year.
I have heard that Napa is being shopped around. He would be an upgrade.
