Whomever we decide is the 10 week solution for Blake - I think we should select someone who is defensively solid even at the expense of attack.

Centre is one of the most difficult positions defensively in the game these days.

We can’t risk someone who has attacking flair but who will cost us 2 tries a game when defending our own line.

We do need to score points too. 10 weeks is too long for a stop gap but we can set tactics now knowing no Cleary or Blake for 10 weeks. If DWZ is a viable option then Yeo is fine this week. If Peachey is to be the 10 week replacement then that should start this week.

I’m deadly serious.

Mackay was a stud.

Played in the legendary 1992 NSW origin team, backed it up with games in 93 & 94. Scored a try in more than 50% of his games for Penrith.

Anyone seriously think Luke Lewis or Rooney gets a game in those 92-94 origin teams?

NSW had wingers like ET, Rod Wishart, Ricky Walford, Chris Johns, Michael O’Connor & Brett Mullins during that period.

Mackay played with those guys.
Mackay was a good winger and I agree he could replace Rooney without us losing too much. But Lewis would get a game ahead of most of those players, ET and Mullins being the only two I would put in front of him.

Mackay was also flattered by having the most visionary halfback for that era, Brandy giving him plenty to work with. I lost count of how many times Brandy put the ball on the chest of a winger giving them a clear run to the line. Gower and Preston didn't supply quite the service Mackay was used to.

Great debate. Mackay used to frustrate me though. Massive body and thighs like apartment blocks but didn't make anything like the yards Mansour does and he is twice the size of Mansour. Put Gary Freemans ticker in Mackay's body and you have a snarling powerhouse who will either be crowned an immortal or spend 10 inside for murdering somebody (Whiz could be a bit on the angry side).

Might as well guve Luai a shot. Distupts the team less if you put Peachey back to centre though defence would be an issue.

That would be what I would do. DWZ was injured pre season and has had 4 or 5 weeks out so moving to centre is risky. May needs NSW Cup 1st see how we are going in a few weeks and bring him in then if we need. Luai could be a gun and we improve as a team

Maloney defends next to Whare now. That makes Peachey not as much of a target in defence. TBH when you get this far down depth wise every move is risky.

Definitely agree wuth everything. sure is risky. We need to get our players back fit otherwise we'll start losing games through no fault of our own.

This is where the coaching staff really earn their money. Fortunately Cartwright, May and DWZ are back within a fortnight. It will be grind out wins until then

To me Ricky Walford & Rod Wishart were better than Luke Lewis at wing play. And much better than Rooney.

Wishart alone played 22 games for NSW on the wing.

Lewis is the better overall player to those guys, but not winger.

Maybe looking back at it closer Lewis edges Mackay, but to me Mackay is definitely better than Rooney.

I was at Penrith Park once and we were playing Illawarra. Wishart was behind the goal posts as I was walking by to go to the toilet. He had to take his jersey off. I swear, he had muscles in his eyebrows, what a physique! Woman were fainting just looking at him. Like sauce without the beard or smile (he scowled a lot).

Random thought while I re-watch the Eels game. Anyone noticed that Yeo never gets dominated in tackles? Doesn't matter how big they are he's got this weird skill of being able to split defenders even if they're shoulder to shoulder and just push on through.

Yeah he uses his hips and body postioning very well. Tamou is similar but the lazy prick never runs the ball.

Yeo reminds me a lot of Trent Waterhouse, and that's a bloody good thing!!

In my opinion the only sameness is they both played back row. Yeo is a far better player that Waterhouse was. Although Waterhouse's 2003 and 2004 were on the high side of OK.

Yeo seems to improve every year. Waterhouse had 2 good years the rest meh.

Yeah he really sucked playing for NSW and Australia. He turned to shit for us by the end of his career. But he was a hell of a lot better than just ok for us.

Most of our 2003 side ranged from shit to average by the time they left us. Plenty of premiership sides end up the same. Especially the older players.
