Not sure if this has been done before, but if you could pick a Panthers team, using the players that were involved in both the '91 and '03 GF-winning sides, who would you have?

Here's my team:

1. Wesser
2. Lewis
3. Girdler
4. Fittler
5. Rooney
6. Gower
7. Alexander (c)
8. Lang
9. Simmons (based on GF performances alone, it was hard to choose between he and Priddis)
10. Clarke
11. Geyer
12. Puletua
13. Van Der Voort

Reserves:

14. Priddis
15. Clinton
16. Cartwright
17. Waterhouse

People keep mention ing Katoa but he really seems to have fallen out of favour. He won't play first grade this year unless Egan isn't there.

This isn't a dig at him on my part I do rate him.

Katoa is going to play plenty of first grade wtf.

I just doubt it. He doesn't even get named in the 21 anymore while guys like Egan and Luai seem to be sneaking past him. I don't know what's happening at the club but he seems to be a second thought these days after being on the bench last year.

Katoa was ineligible for the Cowboys game due to suffering a head knock in Rnd 3, and the mandatory wait times between games. Rnd 4 being on a Thursday night excluded him.

Egan being named in Rnd 5 was most likely as a "Don't change a winning team" thing. Not sure I'd read too much into it.

Mate if he doesn't make it here someone will give him a crack almost guaranteed he is a talented player.

He wasn't selected against the Cowboys because he got a head knock the week before in ISP & the turn around was too short given we played on a Thursday night. I would of assumed he would of been there in place of Egan had he been fit.

Egan will limit his time but I think Katoa will still get a chance this year, maybe even this week.

All fair. Just seems Egan is the one they are trying to "power level" so he can take over from Wallace next year. I do like Katoa so am happy to see him get a go. I wanted him at 9 this year.

I've always thought the idea that the media is against us is rediculous but they gave it to us all off season and now we are top 4 it's like we don't exist :thinking:

I can see where some of the "media hates us" stuff comes from - Gus is a polarising character and has put a few noses out of joint with some of the "journalists" - But in saying that, we're really just one of those types of teams that are "under the radar" for lack of a better expression.

Yeah there was a touch of tongue in cheek about it.

I found it interesting last week when Gus got defensive and said he wasn't GM but a consultant at Penrith.

I was always under the impression his role was General Manager of Football Operations... So not GM as such, but a GM of sorts

Yeah that's what I thought too.

Very Talented, but Egan has Cleary like potential, once those guys get together with Edwards and Maloney... look out! That’s a mouth watering spine!

If I could like this more than once I would. Maybe we need a love button lol.

Oh yeah I can see Egan jumping him in the pecking order for sure but that doesn't mean Katoa wont get a run somewhere.

That's not what I meant originally. He'd walk into a few teams easily. I just meant it appears the club is favouring Egan.

He went from the bench to reserves and not named in the 21.

That's a clear indication of intent.

That is a good team isn't it? I would make a few changes.

17.Van der Voort

I loved Col Van Der Voort, but he would drop to the bench, Waterhouse was a better player and would be my lock. Likewise Simmons. I don't think even he would see himself as a better player than Priddis in his prime. The 03 front row was much better than 91 whom were workmanlike, but had no mongrel. So Ross to replace Clarke. That 03 pack was just awesome on its day.

It was the 91 back row that really was exceptional. If you have Geyer in the back row, who was a bit lazy, you need to partner him with a good workhorse. Cartwright was a perfect foil for him and a great ball player too. Puletua was too lazy for mine but would be great coming off the bench. 03 front row, 91 back row.

On the bench, you need a utility and Izzard could play lock, centre and 5/8th.

Given modern training methods, this team would take some beating. The level of actual football skill is off the radar. Fittler, Girdler, Izzard and Priddis can all play in the halves. Cartwright and Geyer were very skilled ball players and Waterhouse had a good offload in him too. A nightmare to defend against.
