My suggestion of the Gold Coast Suns (Sons) doesn't seem to be attracting much support, but I still think it's best.

I can dig that. Gold Coast Suns is the best I've seen yet. Simple + apt + strong = perfect.

As for the mascot/logo for the Ironmen - check out the Super 12 Waikato Chiefs logo - whack a surf lifesaving cap on that bald head and you'll get the idea.

My thought is the Gold Coast SUN, with no S on the end.

Or Gold Coast Heat or Cyclones.

But for marketing of the Gold Coast, sun and heat would be perfect.
