AS hard as Katie Milligan might try to erase the night her boyfriend allegedly glassed her, the American beauty's face may be "permanently scarred".
For the first time, pictures obtained exclusively by
The Daily Telegraph, reveal the injuries suffered by Ms Milligan when her boyfriend Cronulla Sharks player Greg Bird allegedly glassed her at his unit on August 24.
A leading plastic surgeon yesterday said Ms Milligan, 24, will be scarred for life and will need extensive treatment for at least another year.
"There is no magic cure. Wherever there is a cut, there will be a permanent scar," said Dr Eddie Dona, of Cosmos Clinic in Double Bay.
"From what I can tell from the photo I have seen it will take a lot of care to get a significant result.
"It's highly likely she may require some revisional plastic surgery."
The New Yorker underwent surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital last week.
As the photos reveal, there are extensive cuts on her upper eyelid and cheek. Despite initial fears, Ms Milligan has not lost sight and has been told by doctors
that she has not suffered a fractured eye socket.
Dr Dona said she would need to stay out of the sun and would have highly visible red scarring for at least six months. "When you are dealing with an irregular, jagged scar like that it's a challenge to erase the visibility of the scar," he said.
Yesterday, Ms Milligan appeared to be moving on with her life by leaving the Rydges Hotel Cronulla, where she has been staying since leaving hospital.
The paralegal, who just days ago declared she was still in love with Bird, has been spotted socialising at Cronulla with some of the footballer's friends.
She also plans to move into her own apartment and will complete her three year graduate law degree in Sydney.
Since speaking to the
Telegraph on Monday, lawyers have advised her not to speak to the media.
Meanwhile Bird's future remains clouded. The State of Origin star is charged with maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Ms Milligan after allegedly glassing her in the face.
The Sharks, who stood the Australian Test five-eighth a day after the alleged incident, will wait until Bird faces court before making a permanent decision.
It is understood some of the club's sponsors have called for Bird to be sacked regardless of the courts findings.
Yesterday, while his girlfriend moved out of the hotel, Bird remained silent on her injuries when he returned to his waterfront Cronulla apartment.
Also under instructions from his lawyers, Bird refused to comment.
