Interesting question isn't it.

Do they legally have grounds to sack him if the case doesn't proceed or is found not guilty?

If they do does the NRL have grounds to refuse to register his contract or would he be able to sue them for restraint of trade?

Would another club pick him up? My bet is very much yes.

How would the members of the lynch mob on here feel if it were their club that did pick him up?

Since that is funny what did happen Brookie?

Did you believe up until this morning that she had a fractured eye socket?

Do you think nothing else in the press has been misreported?

not quite sure, but something like this:

- she was acting like a 'f*cking idiot' according to greg & the neighbours
- he didn't like it, so he glassed her.
- they both blame gregs mate, who was not even there (FACT)

no matter what happens, even if he is cleared, i know, sharks fans know, katie knows & greg knows what happened.

why lie to police about anything if no crime was commited?

many of those shocked at his behaviour would probably support him being signed up.

its always the way with keyboard warriors.

Rumour has it that the police are confident of nailing him regardless

They pretty much have to be or there may be some uncomfortable questions asked of them, such as how did so much information make it into the papers whilst they were still interviewing him (remembering their deadlines are hours before the papers go out).

The police in Brisbane still maintain they were correct in the post SOO incident don't they even though the video supports Bird's version of events and contradicts theirs.

If he has done what he is accused of I hope the police do proceed and are successful, however now that real facts are emerging, facts that back up the victims statement that there are inaccuracies in the press, I think Bird's chances of beating a charge are looking better and better regardless of his guilt or innocence. Wasn't there a paedophile in Qld recently who was released because of the press's coverage ofhis case and his inability to get a fair trial? Surely Bird's defence would be able to try something like that when it has been splashed on front pages of papers and lead stories of radio and TV news that he had fractured his girlfriends eye socket when he hadn't.

How do you know she was acting like an idiot according to the neighbours? They weren't in court to say that or be cross examined on it. The only place I am betting you heard this is in the press correct? The same press that have been telling you for 10 days that she had a fractured eye socket? Could these reports also be untrue.

For the record I said in this thread a couple of days ago she didn't have a fractured eye socket. I don't know Bird, anyone associated with Bird or with his club, management, girlfriend etc. I managed to find out by asking some friends who work at the hospital. They knew this Monday after it happened, do you think the press may have been able to find out with just a little effort or maybe that wouldn't help sell as many papers. Do you think maybe it is co-incidence it only comes out when there is a clear picture of her eye that anyone with some medical knowledge or experience with similar injuries would see that there is no way this person had recently suffered a fractured eye socket?

Re the mate's involvement do you know for a fact he lied to police, or was the mate being involved told to the hospital staff? If he has lied to police when he is being investigated then that is an offence in itself isn't it? And if so we don't need to worry about Bird playing NRL anymore anyway as the POlice would be able to prove this easily and give the NRL and Sharks the ammunition to punt hime regardless.

But take your blinkers off regarding the mate for a minute and pretend that you are on the jury for this case, the one where you have to believe that there is no reasonable doubt that it he deliberately attacked her. Here we have a lawyer telling you how a high profile football player and his girlfriend had an arguement, he was angry and went to throw a drink at her and it slipped from his hand (or she moved forward at the same time) and the glass accidently connected with her. She backs this story up. She says why did you do this to me, he says I didn't meaning I didn't do it on purpose and this is what is overheard by a neighbour. They realise he has a high profile and think that the media will go rabid over a story like this so they head off to hospital, thinking that the injuries are minor but need looking at, so decide to say that a mate caused the accident, fully expecting that it will be thought of that way and that nothing much will come of it. Media do get a hold of it and go rabid as they had thought they would if the media thought Bird was involved. Lawyer can show previous examples such as the speculation over the Dogs at Coffs and Todd Carney to highlight this.

Are you saying that you definately say something like this couldn't have happened? Because essentially that is what a jury would have to do.

I don't necessarily believe that is what happened, and I hope if he is guilty he is found so, but I think the media has helped his cause.

pedo is different to a woman beater.

just because her eyesocket wasnt fractured doesnnt mean he didnt do it.

I agree completely on both counts, and I am not at all trying to compare the crimes though for mine both deserve to be locked up.

But media sensationalism can and has been used by defence as a means to try and have a case dismissed.

Re the fact that it wasn't a fracture doesn't mean he didn't do it of course not but it does mean there was nowhere near as much force in the alleged attack, raises the possibility that it was an accident and also brings into question what other "facts" that people are forming their opinions on are not fair and accurate does it not?

What if what the neighbours are reported to have heard or if they heard more than what has been reported?

What if he didn't lie about the mate to the police, but only to the hospital staff to try and keep the press off it?

The victim has only said that there are inaccuracies in the press and that she is disapointed with the way the police have handled it. It has now been shown that there was at least one inaccuracy in the press (and a significant one for mine as if she had have had a fractured eye socket it had to be an assault, couldn't have been an accident). What else is she referring to.

What I can't really fathom is if it was all an accident is why she hasn't just spoken out and cleared it all up. It would be the logical thing for me.

Because I don't believe anyone is low enough to put an innocent mate in a position where they can go to jail.

They told the hospital it was an accident ...not that the mate purposely attacked her.

Maybe someone bumped passed her while she was drinking a glass of orange juice, and she fell on the glass.

Telling the cops that it was the mate that accidentally bumped into her, takes the heat off bird, who is open to 1000 times more media scrutiny than average joe.

The dad has said he is happy with the version of events and he'd be the harshest judge of the situation.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHA.....
