Where is uncle Ima, he wanted Bird as Captain.

Even The King of the Hill (Shireshark) would not have predicted it would be a french team.

Meanwhile, former Sharks star Greg Bird has returned to Sydney to prepare for his trial beginning next Monday on charges of assaulting his girlfriend and will miss Catalans' game against Hull KR. Bird, who has been captaining the Perpignan-based Super League club, hopes to clear his name and then consider whether to return to the NRL or stay in France.
Apples and oranges

Complaints by Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart that the disciplinary action taken against Bird was unfair compared to the four-match ban imposed by the NRL on Stewart missed one important point - it was the Sharks who decided to stand down Bird indefinitely last year and eventually parted company with him during the off-season.

Imbeciles and God botherers.
the scribe fails to recognise the NRL were watching closely and fully condoned the actions of the sharks and then did a back flip with the stewart matter. They really need to establish some sort of code similar to the points policy for on field 'indiscretions' .

Wasn't it pressure from the sponsors, and womens groups because Birdy isn't as handsome as Stewart or something equally ridiculous?

Anyway if he gets off, the Sharks need to re-sign the man and give him the key to the Shire. Should he be asking for an apology from the same groups after he is dismissed? Too farkin right!!

Crunch time for Greg Bird.

It's crunch-time for the former Cronulla Sharks star who has returned from his French club to face trial in Downing Local Court this morning on whether he assaulted his girlfriend, Katie Milligan, with a broken glass. Bird has been charged with reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, public mischief and false accusations. He was dropped from his team after police laid charges and now captains the Catalans, a Super-League club in France.

Plea ... Greg Bird is surrounded by media / File picture

  • Greg Bird pleads guilty to public mischief
  • Denies glassing girlfriend Kate Milligan
  • Magistrate to consider brief of evidence
FORMER NRL star Greg Bird has pleaded guilty to a public mischief offence, but denies assaulting his girlfriend.
His barrister John Dailly SC today said the footballer pleaded not guilty to two assault charges in relation to Kate Milligan and to making a false accusation.
Magistrate Roger Clisdell was due to begin a three-day hearing into the charges at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court this morning.
But Peter Stanhope, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, told the magistrate he had received a call from Mr Dailly this morning consenting to the brief of evidence being tendered to the magistrate.
This means witnesses will not be required to give evidence and the magistrate will consider the case through reading the material before him.
Mr Bird, 24, who was present in court, is accused of glassing Ms Milligan in the face at his Cronulla apartment last August.
Police also allege Mr Bird attempted to deceive them when he claimed his flatmate Brent Watson was responsible for Ms Milligan's injuries.
The public mischief charge to which Mr Bird has pleaded guilty relates to this claim.

Magistrate Clisdell adjourned the matter until later today to allow the parties to go through the brief together before it is handed up to him.

Section 547B of the Crimes Act provides for the offence. If dealt with in the Local Court (which it appears to be in this case) then penalty is up to 12 months imprisonment or $5,500 fine or both.

seems likely he will be committed for trial on the assault charges what with no cross examination of the prosecution witnesses.

Interpol tracks girlfriend in Greg Bird assault case
AAP

Greg Bird pleads guilty to public mischief
Denies glassing girlfriend Kate Milligan
She's now believed to be in Spain
The girlfriend of former NRL star Greg Bird has not made a police statement about his alleged assault on her and is believed to be in Spain, a court has heard.
Peter Stanhope, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, said the Crown had not received any statement from Katie Milligan.
Information from Interpol indicated she had left the US on March 19 en route to Spain, he said.
Mr Bird, 24, has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and to recklessly wounding Ms Milligan by allegedly hitting her in the face with a glass at his apartment in August 2008.
In Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court, Mr Stanhope tendered a brief of evidence to Magistrate Roger Clisdell, who adjourned the case until tomorrow so he could read the material.
Police allege Mr Bird, who was in court tody, attempted to deceive them when he claimed his Cronulla flatmate Brent Watson was responsible for his girlfriend's injuries.
Mr Bird has admitted a public mischief charge, but has pleaded not guilty to making a false accusation to police.
His barrister, John Dailly SC, said the latter charge required an intention to have a police investigation take place.
Because the defence has consented to the brief being handed up to the magistrate, none of the 29 expected witnesses will be required to give evidence.
After telling the magistrate there was no statement from Ms Milligan, Mr Stanhope said: "The Crown case is a circumstantial case."
He and Mr Dailly will make submissions to the magistrate tomorrow.
Outside the court, Mr Bird was asked how Ms Milligan was and replied: "She's good, she's good."
He was then asked if they were they still maintaining contact.
"We're still together," the footballer said.

This is the trial Gunna. Defence has just decided to accept the prosecutions brief and allow it to be tended without each witness actually appearing in court. Happens a lot at the start of hearings. Defence has also decided that they dont need to cross examine the witnesses. There is obviously not much in the brief that scares them. Prosecutor stated that it is a circumstancial case, as we all know.

So once the magistrate reads the brief the defence witnesses will start rolling up. Thats assuming he thinks the prosecution has achieved prima facie for the assault. If the magistrate thinks they havent, which is likely then this will be over tomorrow morning.

Likely result - assault, reckless wounding - dismissed
- false reps - dismissed
- public mischief - entered guilty plea - will cop a fine.

As predicted to Barry and the board months ago. Nice work Barry.

I still love Interpol, tracking a person who never asked for charges and has not been charged, exactly what are they tracking her for?

The magistrate will give his sentence to bird on the public mischief plea, by admitting to public mischief i cant see how its going to help bird in his defense of lying to the police
