Understand your point, but how can you be certain they wouldn't have gone to ESL? Or that Civo wouldn't have gone?

Another point - would they have stopped the progress of a junior into FG - arguably King leaving allowed Folau to arrive. Def the case with Gower and Wallace.

And Trent Barrett returning - how much did it strengthen the NRL?

Point 1 - its about money. There currently isn't enough money to keep all these players in. With more money in the game and players like Gower staying, Civo may not have ended up at Penrith, but in my opinion it is highly likely he would have stayed in the NRL.

Point 2 - those juniors would be picked up by another club. Players like Folau don't go unnoticed for long.

Point 3 - Imagine the Sharks halves without Barrett - actually you don't have to, he was injured half the year.

Players fading in the twilight of their career

Players who are twats that we don't want anyway.

Players who are nuffies that would never be missed.

Players who would enrich our comp.

Brett Hodgson
Brad Thorn
Clinton Schofoski
Ryan Cross

Barrick Barnes
Lote Taquiri
Sonny Bill Williams
Craig Gower
Luke Rooney

Mark Gaisner
Amos Roberts
Dallas Johnson
Craig Wing
Matt Gidley

Jake Webster
Brent Webb
Ali Lautiti
Michael Monaghan
Lesley Vainakolo
Matt Orford
Matt King
Danny Buderus
Shane Tronc
Dean Widders
Shaun Berrigan
Pat Richards
Tony Polatua

Iafecta Palasena
Steve Menzies
David Fa'logo
Rangi Chase
Clint Greensheilds
Setamata Sa
Iosia Soliola
Francis Meli
Vinnie Anderson
Greg Eastwood

And of the above list we have players would would have either retired, or who left early to chase the money anyway.

They could have taken the Ruben Wiki option, and stayed for less. Anyway, I doubt you could build a credible side for 2010 out of that lot, allowing for the Dad's Army factor.

lol...bs...Ryan Cross wasn't in the twilight of his career when he left, and Soliola is a New Zealand international. Most of those players are nearing the end of their careers now, but sure weren't when they left. They all would have strengthened the competition, particularly the large amount of Kiwis playing in England, a fair few would be playing for the Warriors.

Yes, but the list was about players TODAY - not what they were capable of 5 years ago.

You cant say that the competition wouldnt be of higher quality with Gower, King, Monahaghn, Gasnier, SBW, Hodgeson, Cross, Rooney, Gidley, Webb, Buderus, Berrigan, etc etc.

Hell, the amount of Blues players in that list is rather frusturating. NSW would of had better depth if Ryles, Tahu, Gasnier, Gower, King, Monahaghn, Rooney etc etc were still around.

Hayne is speaking the truth about the problem we have in rugby league, we will keep loosing players to the SL RU and AFL, and with other off field problems the code is facing we have to act. Something has to be done about 3rd party payments then the cap must get increased, and that is just a start.

But you have a look at the age of the players who have left

also the circumstances and nearly it cause by more money , not the way the game is played , players have to understand they are not worth what they are asking for

If they want to go for more money let them, why should they be able to say we want more money and league should fold for them

Its unfair on the underrated players who arent in the elite division of players when they are equal or sometimes better then these players like hayne , and co

Some of these players who call themselves elite and looking for more money are insulting other players in the league

The clubs or 3rd parties shouldn't be paying these players more then $200,000 +,on top of what the players are already getting

The point is - if you have business that turns over $1 million per annum and does only $50,000 profit, you can't afford to have 10 gun salesmen on $250K each. It is a recipe for bankruptcy.

If the game can't afford these players, let them leave.

When they can afford $400k+ for a CEO then they can afford to be paying their players more imo.

Hayne is right, it is as simple as that. We have lost players that should be in our clubs. Most of us here are serious in the way we follow our clubs but MOST people are hooked by big events (eg. They watch Origin) and by the amazing stars. Especially our kids.

The NRL needs to have an unashamed aim to maintain and grow its status as the biggest Club comp out of the 'Rugby' codes. It needs to aim to be the biggest comp in this country and it can't do so when it continually lays down, thinking that getting our biggest stars taken with little opposition is some how good for the game.

We produce amazing players because in part the nature of RL gives them room to develop their game and act as individuals (as opposed to the nature of union) but special stars come along that we cannot just reproduce.

(ps. we could easily support 3 or 4 clubs more if we got our players back from SL and Union)

Salient and correct.

I'll add the reason clubs dont have more money is because most CEO's are to fkn lazy to go out and make it.

If Wally was at Parra the last decade youd probably have a title or 2 and millions in the bank, rather then putting your hand out to the leagues club every year.

that's right, because it had nothing to do with Peter O'Sullivan and Craig Bellamy didn't it? :sarcasm:

If News Limited didnt fund Melbourne, you'd have soccer at Olympic Park and Waldron cleaning windows at St Kilda.

If Wally had an IQ he's set up a leagues club in Melbourne to fund the storm. That's making money, not regular fallacio with newspaper execs.

Oh that's right. Melbourne leagues: no one would turn up.
