The issue he has is how high he lifts his knee. He could have lowered his hip/side and bumped him off but he has lifted the knee high enough that it hits a players head

But surely it does matter if only in the sense that the NRL have been aware of him doing this for years and haven't told him to stop. What can you possibly take away from that other than the NRL have been happy with his technique and considered it legal? Suddenly an injury occurs and the NRL are going to change their mind :?

The NRL should have told him not to run like this 3 years ago, before he wound up breaking someones jaw is the main argument. Hurrell shouldn't have to miss games and the Warriors shouldn't have to be without Hurrell just because the NRL don't know how to run a sport.

It shouldn't be up to the NRL to warn every player that their technique is dangerous.

The onus is on the Warriors coaching staff to see this and make him adjust his style.

Its a pretty dangerous thing to do. I have seen him use that hip bump before and thought that it looks like he is trying to knee them in the head. He lifted his knee going into a tackle(illegal move) and shattered someones jaw with it. That's gotta be a solid suspension based on how they have been treating injuries caused by foul play.

Next they'll be outlawing running with bent knees, everyone will have to wear braces like this.

he should get months, it's clearly deliberate, fore arm braced, knee raised, eye contact with the defender

gone for a long time

. . . But if the NRL DID warn him 6 months ago about the danger of leading with his knee . . . I'll bet you'd have been the first one on here defending him by saying " Nobody has been hurt, dunno what the NRL's problem is"
He lead with his knee.
He raised it, and extended it before impact and held it extended from it's normal position, till it smashed into the face of his opponent.
And also had a good dose of extended and cocked forearm, too.
It don't matter if he's in traffic or not.
It ISN'T his normal running style, because when he's in the open he doesn't lead with his knees.
He only does it when confronted by a tackler. A tackler that has every right to tackle around thigh height, and be protected from a raised and cocked knee by the rules.

So in your mind, Hurrell is not at fault even though he is clearly breaking the rules. It's the NRL's fault for not telling him not to break the rules ?

And back to the original question . . . 10 weeks

It is an awful technique and it should be punished purely on that alone. You can't run like that and NOT cause serious injuries.

Yes he should be punished I never said otherwise, if he's going to attempt to continue to use his hip in such a way then he needs to be more aware of his timing, surroundings and technique. Which is why an accidental charge of a few weeks will suffice.

It was not deliberate and he is not a repeat offender so anything more than a few weeks would be harsh IMO.

Anyway there is precedence there, what did David Klemmer get for his deliberate knee to a player last year whilst carrying the ball?

Unless you're in the camp that thinks injury should dictate suspension in which case I'll agree to disagree.

Its not unlucky imo its careless and dangerous. He lifted his leg and smashed Tupou in the jaw with it, shattering it completely by the looks of it. Its dangerous that's why lifting your knee into tackles is against the rules.

I think both Peachey and Konrad will be getting a month or two on the sidelines.
