No, I haven't seen Bumrah or Rabada bowl. I said that I would make a personal stand and I have stuck by my guns. If the ratings are as low as Ouryears suggests, then maybe there are many others who are boycotting watching Australian cricket until Smith and co reinstated.
Thats their loss. I'm a cricket fan. I love watching test cricket. The Adelaide and Perth tests were some of the best I have seen in ages, especially the Perth pitch, it was a beauty! I could not imagine boycotting cricket or NRL to try and make some kind of point like you are doing. I think the only person suffering here is yourself for missing out on some fantastic cricket.
It's been a very good series so far, much more interesting than last years Ashes.

So your stand here is that because 2/3 high profile players, got busted " cheating " ( ugly word but true ). then you wont watch was has been an amazing series.

I know the BBL has slowly taken over the code, but test match cricket for me is the pinnacle.

Adelaide, Perth, MCG, all great events, ..

Excellent post, nothing more I could add to what you've said.

I stated my stance and why. It was because Australia's cricket board banned 3 of our players for either 9 months or 1 year, when in all previous cases, once the ICC handed down their penalty, in which the most severe was a one game suspension, the country's cricket board didn't impose any further penalties, but our cricket board succumbed to mainstream media and social media calls for a ban.

For those entertaining the idea that Smith and/or Warner will save Aust cricket, here are their batting stats before the incident:

Warner: (2018)
7 inns
3 x 50's
0 x 100's
HS - 63
Ave - 39

Smith: (2018)
7 inns
2 x 50's
0 x 100's
HS - 83
Ave - 32.14

Very average and not much better, if at all, from our current stock.

As I had previously said Aust cricket was in a sharp decline way before the sandpaper incident.

They have all been poor this series.
The only batsmen this year that rates in the top 10 in fact is Uzzie
Usman Khawaja 18 inns 732 (40.66)
Tim Pain 19 inns 493 (35.21)
Shaun Marsh 19 inns 492 (25.89)

The fact that Shaun is averaging 25 this year is very very concerning.
Oh, and Mitch has scored 53 runs in last 8 test inns.

How did the Marshes go in the last Ashes series?

I haven't watch a minute of the test series against India, as I am boycotting watching the Australian cricket team until at least Smith is reinstated, but I will say that losing a test series to India in Australia will be one of our darkest hours and much darker than the ball tampering incident. It will also be one of India's greatest moments and all because Cricket Australia bowed to pressure from Australia's mainstream media and social media and disgracefully suspended 3 of our players including our 2 best batsman, all to make a moral stand, when the most severe penalty in cricket history for ball tampering was 1 game. lol I hope all of you who called for our players to be banned feel proud of yourself. Instead of standing by and supporting our players in their time of need, you now have to support a substandard team. In a way I think it serves the Australian Cricket Board and all of those who called for the banning of Smith, Warner and Bancroff right, that Australia is performing so poorly without the above 3 mentioned players. It also means that all 3 should be reinstated to the Australian team as soon as they are available.

I remember hearing someone on Youtube recently say that no one ever won by taking the moral higher ground. It is a pretty good quote and quite apt regarding this year's test series against India.

BTW I will reiterate. I was very pissed off when Cricket Australia suspended our players for 9 months or 1 year, after the ICC handed down their penalties. In every other international ball tampering instance, after the ICC handed down their penalties the players received no further penalties from their respective Cricket boards. When Sachin Tendulka was caught ball tampering, The Indian Cricket Board didn't impose a further suspension on top of what the ICC handed down, instead they fought the ICC and had the charges dropped to cleaning the ball. lol

The next time another country gets caught for ball tampering, I hope their country's cricket board doesn't hand down any further punishment, than the ICC hands down. That will really make the Australian Cricket Board look like a laughing stock.

Our players did something stupid in South Africa. It didn't mean that we should have sacrificed the series against India.

I couldn’t disagree with you further.

1. there is no justification in cheating.

2. any punishment meted out by CA shouldn’t be predicated by weak international Boards.

(Don’t get me started on the toothless ICC)

3. both CA’s stance and the length of the bans for each respective player was spot on (although I would’ve permitted the trio to play in the Sheffield Shield and JLT CUP).

Ball tampering is a world wide issue and the severity of sanctions handed down to those caught needs to be much greater.

Well there you go. Cheers for sharing. I have to say I've loved watching the last few tests. India have been exciting to watch. Can't wait for the Sydney one to start.

Regarding your last statement. The ICC are and should be the ones responsible for handing out penalties for ball tampering in Test matches. The same penalties should apply to each country. Each and every country should be held to the same standards. That is fair to me.

Maybe the ICC should state that in the future the penalties for ball tampering will be so and so? I think Cricket Australia should have imposed no further penalties after the ICC handed down their penalties, but said, that in the future, any Australian cricketer caught ball tampering or involved in ball while playing for Australia will receive a ban of so and so. In each scenario the players would have then known what the penalties were if they got caught and known where they stood. I think a 1 year ban for being the captain and apparently having no part in it is extremely excessive, when the previous most severe penalty for actual ball tampering was one game.

I suppose that you think our club and only club should impose further bans on our players if they get suspended by the NRL for on field antics, because our club should be held to higher standards than all of the other clubs?

Please explain to me, how all of the bans that Cricket Australia handed down were "spot on", when the previous most severe penalty for ball tampering was 1 game and no one else had ever been suspended for ball tampering unless they were the actual ones who tampered with the ball. I am really curious as to how you can say that they were spot on. One game for actual ball tampering vs 1 year for either being the captain or for being involved? Are you sure that one year was suffice? Don't you think it should have been 2 or 3? lol

So, they’re eligible for selection after their bans finish..

What exactly is news there? They copped a one year ban, not a lifetime ban..

Of course any rational person would expect to see their names thrown up for selection given the current team performance and the fact they had served the time imposed on them..

I’m really not sure what point you’re trying to make here..?

Wow, you don't read the posts on here by SOME who say Smith can come back but not Warner!?

I know you have seen and read those posts ... as you write about far less significant things.

My point is there are 5-7 posters on here who state Warner should be banned for life....and they dearly hope he is.

Read the posts.
Do the research before asking me. It's all in writing.

On here.
By the do gooders.
The people on here who declare Warner should never be allowed back, those people can go and get nuked.

They can suck eggs.
Cause he is coming back.

They should serve the penalties given.
Period.

They embarrassed themselves, the sport and the country.

They will bounce back after they paid their dues.

Now just go off and have a happy new year.

FMD they don't wear a ICC cap or blazer when they play cricket at that level, they wear and Australian Baggy Green and Australian blazer and for the record they are "invited" to play for their country.
So, as we extend the invitation and if our blokes f**k up by cheating, then it is fair and just that our board get to meet out the punishment as long as it is in excess of the ICC penalties.
If other countries or the controlling body don't hold high values as to who gets to wear their countries colours so be it but I for one am proud that we have decided to place real value on it.

TLDR..

How is your article supposed to suddenly change the opinions of others today given it contains stuff that was already known 9 months ago..?

Whether intentionally designed to be rhetorical or otherwise, your second paragraph pretty much summarises my position.

Yes, the Australian Cricket Team (including its governing body, CA) should aspire to a higher standard than everyone else. What is fundamentally wrong with that? This goal was resoundingly achieved by the stance taken against those involved in “Sandpaper-gate”. Please don’t absolve Steve Smith’s involvement either; he admitted to knowing about the plan to bring a foreign, illegal object onto the field of play with the sole purpose of cheating. In his own words, he “turned a blind to it”. Legally, this is known as being an accessory after the fact.

Let me ask you a quickie. Given your belief that the ICC should be the only arbitrator in handing down punishments, are you are aware Sri Lankan captain, Angelo Mathews, was found guilty of ball tampering, and subsequently issued a woefully one match suspension by the ICC? Also, did you know this incident occurred not long after CA meted out its sanctions? If so, how is this (a ONE match ICC ban) a disincentive to prevent players from flouting the laws of the game?

If stats are the only barometer, Steve Waugh’s career should’ve finished prior to 1989.

Four-years...FOUR BLOODY LONG YEARS!!!!
Steve Waugh had a very good batting average, pretty sure it was over 50. Interesting Mark Waugh didn't finish his career with a great average, I think it was only 41?
