No problem with them using a Jess Mauboy song to promote the game - I just wish they had come up with a better one. It's just not very catchy.

That same song has also just been re-done by a different artist, so it's not real original either.

I dunno - the whole thing just left me a bit flat. I don't hate it, but I definitely don't love it.

It's still rubbish.
It cold be a decent ad and still achieve all of that, plus appeal to the 'dinosaurs' like me.

God some of the negative reactions to this ad are insane. The sad thing is some of the ones on the Grill Team's Facebook are even worse.

The footage itself is quite good imo, but the song choice is very ordinary and bland. Does it amp you up and make you go 'f**k yeah!'? We haven't had that since Tina, I still to this day get goosebumps from seeing the old ads on Youtube. It definetly wont stop the already diehards from following the game, but i don't think it will bring in any new ones either. I keep saying it, 'My Hero' by Foo Fighters is a song that should be looked at being used, It's mainstream enough to cater for mums and dads and kids, has somewhat pertinent lyrical content and is also a great song.

Song was okay, aomething closer to the Fo rida version would have worked better IMO. She just felt a bit oddly spliced into it.

But I loved all the kids and people playing footy, that worked great. Made me want to grab the footy and run outside and have a game

They should have just done the avicii version. Fun, young, everyone knows it. Avicii is a bigger name than Mauboy will ever be.

Which teams got the best representation, which the worst?

My team, the sharks got their usual, shot of benji kicking through, shot of raiders scoring against us, shot of tigers celebrating against us.

But at least we are in the ad.
Which was the worst? Newcastle. Not in it at all ...

Best was Canterbury/Melbourne which is understandable.

The footage is pretty good.

The song.... meh

With all the extra dosh we've got I'd hire better marketing consultants/internal staff or a better ad agency & commission an original composition by a world renowned composer.

Mauboy is fine, she just needs a little better to work with.

Given that being 'a bigger name' and appeal to non diehard fans appears to be the main criteria for the advertising push it's clear that 'One Direction' should be pursued for the 2014 campaign.
If they still exist that is. If not them, perhaps the next big passing trend will suffice.
