I cant believe we would purposely risk this season and next signing an unknown quantity being Hodgson post injurys and no other 9 coverage as a stop gap in preparation for young Arthur. Surely that couldnt happen. Thankfully, out of an act of desperation, Hands has shown some form and been re signed accordingly. Watching the game V The Tits from behind the posts it was incredible how crisp the service from dummy half became after Hands replaced Hodgo.
He did miss some tackles though.

If I recall correctly, the consensus was that the risk with Hodgo was that he would be injured again, not that he would play so poorly. How ironic that we are now wishing his leg would fall off. Personally I think he can still do a job for us with reduced minutes and narrowed job description.

The best he can do is to mentor Hands and play 20-25 minutes.

2 middle defenders post talking at sub-80% effectiveness.
Glad they werent both on the field at the same time.
It's fair to have lower defensive expectations of your attacking players (such as Paulo). In the case of dummy halves like Hodgson and Hands, they are also attacking players, in the team for their running game or decision making in attack. That is poor from Paulo though. He is tackling at 92% for the year. Payne Haas has a 99% effectiveness. No wonder Kevin Walters is a coaching genius.

He wanted too much money for the supporting role we were offering. What part of salary cap don't you understand ffs?

Yeah he wanted too much money so we went and bought an over the hill, old dud. We could have kept rheed but we choose not to. Hence we still had money in the kitty and we said we’re chasing an X factor player, but we’ve landed another plus 30 year old, in Andrew Davey.

It needs to be said, if we’re still in the market for an ‘x factor’ player and don’t land one, weren’t we better keeping rheed? What part of spending your cap don’t you understand ffs?

Whatever Mahoney is costing, it wouldn't be just for this year and next. It would impact our recruitment until the end of 2026. We wouldn't be able to sign an x factor even if one was available, unless we cut another expensive player. Davey and Hodgson are only stopping us recruiting players at their salary level, whatever it is.

Mate we’re going to need a hooker next year. And if old man hodgo takes up his player option, it’ll f*^k us right over. And you have absolutely no idea what Hodgson and Davey are on. The point is, if we don’t sign them, surely we’d me much more closer to keeping rheed.

:rolleyes:Research merkin. It’s been posted at least 10 times what happens if WE don’t exercise our option and then HE exercises his option.

Nothing has ever been posted officially. I reckon he gets only slightly less if he takes up his option as opposed to us taking it up.

There is a quote from Hodgson himself. Any ‘slightly’ less makes a mockery of the option process, if you know their purpose.

Yea he said there is both a player option and a club option and that he will def be here next year. No details about what those options entail. The fact that he said he would def be here next year before the season kicked off indicates to me his player option is still pretty juicy.

The player option would be less than the club option, which surely wouldn't be more than he's on now. I doubt it's much. Why would it be?

Neither do you. You don't know what Mahoney is on either so why complain? Just assume they are not like-for-like in salary and get on with your life.

Well this year the club has Hodgson, Rein and Hands on the books. Next year it's just Hodgson and Hands. We only need a mid range hooker, like the Roosters had when they were more successful. That's the model we've chosen, and we can use Rein's money to sign one. These merkins are all available, including plenty of young blokes. Any one of them could be the next Brendan Hands:

Berrell (28 years old with 0 NRL games)
Brown (29 with 53)
Chan Kum Tong (21 with 0)
Clarke (22 with 0)
Deakin (21 with 0)
Finau (23 with 0)
Geyer (22 with 0)
Granville (34 with 192)
Leeming (28 with a bunch of ESL games)
Luke (27 with 13)
Muhleisen (22 with 0)
Rugless (21 with 0)
Simpkin (22 with 27)
Smoothy (24 with 4)
Starling (25 with 73)
Trevilyan (22 with 1. Another Raider coming off an ACL injury which is exciting)
Turpin (27 with 65)
Watson (27 with 125)

No doubt more juicy than holding a lollipop sign for council, or being a labourer,
