Sandow.
We were able to get Foran off the books after one year. Didn't hurt us that much overall.

We had Sandow eating up our salary cap and stinking it up on the field for years. He is easily our worst buy.
I will never forget Sandow's final game for us spitting the dummy and basically tanking.

It was one of the most disgraceful acts I have ever seen by a parramatta player.

That for me will always have him as our worst ever signing.

Sandow was a disaster, for sure.

Waqas last couple surely rival Sandows worst.

Waqa was at least trying he was just uncoordinated or completely shot mentally.

Sandow deliberately tanked a game to get out of a contract.

That is what disgusted me considering he leeched 2.2 million off the joint.
Almost as much as Kane Evans. 😁

We had such a great year that season. He must have been competing against some players who played very well for that award.

In any case, one semi-decent season (in which we finished 12th) does not change the fact that he was a terrible buy for our club.

you're right...

he wasn't who we needed at the time, we needed a game manager instead.

but we needed a big dick signing at the time and he was it.

mind you, it also didn't help that Ben Roberts was your halves partner too.

I’m sure we needed a signing, and he was on the market.
I will say I was never a fan of his, even when he was at Souths. Always thought he was overrated, erratic in attack and horrible defensively. I knew he was not what we needed at the time and even though I hoped for the best, assumed it would end in disaster. The amount of money we apparently had to give him in order to get him from Souths didn’t help.

I wish I was wrong about him. Those were pretty dark years.

from memory he was the only established 7 on the market at that time.

in fact, from memory there was talk of us trying to entice Brent Sherwin out of retirement for a season...the situation was that grim.

DCE was on a pittance at Manly at the time in his debut season.

I am sure if we offered him 500k he would have walked.

Sherwin would have been better.
It’s a hard situation to be in as a club doing recruitment. Do you sign a player because you need someone, even if they aren’t the right fit? Or do you wait and use what you’ve got, knowing that it’s not going to go well and the fans won’t be happy…but you’ll have a chance to get someone better the next year.

I’m glad I’m not the one making those decisions.

Not necessarily.
We were a rubbish club at the time. His winning prospects would have been much higher at Manly, giving him more chances to play Origin and Tests and raising his profile in a positive way. For a young player that’s a much better decision in the long run than taking the big money up front.

the problem there was that DCE was on his way to winning a comp for Manly..the irony is Many inherited him from QLD Cup when he just so happened to be playing for their feeder club at that time.

that was a case of being kissed on the dick by God..the last time that happened to us was when Terry Fernley brought Cronin and Sterling into the club in the space of 3 years.

I'm sure Jaxon Paulo would of contributed more to our club than Lumelume did..I hope that answers your question.

the more I think about it, the more I strongly believe ( as wild and weird as it is ) that we have capped the amount of money we pay our outside backs and this is where we coming unstuck.

Well it ended up being a bit of karma i suppose.

They won a comp while paying him on minimum wage in his rookie year. When he was probably playing like a 500k halfback.

A few years later he bent them over forced a truckload of cash to be reversed to his front yard and they haven't come close to winning a comp since.

mate, if Sandow did that to us ( as in won a comp then bending us over ) than I'd be more than happy to cop it.
