I am sure that ben smith signed a 4 year deal last season or at the beginning of last year ... there are other players we can cut before him.

I still think he is best in our backline at center ..

Don't be surprised if Poore re-signs with the dragqueens.
The longer and longer the negotiations go for the more i feel he ain't going anywhere.

sure, and while we're at it we'll take 4 of our home games to Hong Kong also, you'd like that hey?? :D

THat'll be great. They can then visit Macau. Fitzy could show them where to go.

However, the crowd attendance would probably be only 2

Me and MITS

They could also use the trip to scout for some Chinese players. There are billions of them so it wouldn't be hard to find some Yau Ming type forwards somewhere. They would probably also be content with $1,000 A YEAR contract. If you tell them that they can make $200 per win, they'd sign quickly.

Don't forget that China won the most medals at the last olympics. So if you want athletes there are heaps of them here.

Furthermore, you could then sell membership to the zillions of chinese here at $1 to join.

That should cover the $8 million easy.

:?

I guess if you want a center who doesn't look like troubling the defence with ball in hand AND is far too slow laterally to be a good defender in that position anymore - then sure, Ben is your man.

Poor guy - ever since his leg injuries he can't move sideways as quickly anymore, and can't get his large frame moving anywhere near quickly enough.

There's little to no doubt that Reddy is a better option at center, and Tautai is actually quicker and more dangerous than Ben Smith was - and looks more likely in defence too...

I reckon a full off-season working on becoming a forward under the guidance of DA and working alongside Joey G and Hindy will see Ben become a solid second-rower.

I could be wrong, of course.

I agree - not an impact player, but in the workhorse role - and in the games he's played there this season he certainly brings a lot of talk and enthusiasm.

His running game wouldn't be his asset in the pack though! But I did see him trying to promote the ball through an offload etc.

he can have 5 seasons to adapt but won't if he doesn't have the attitude required to play in the pack. 2 runs = no interest in being there, so f**k off and come back after wenty changes your attitude.

Or perhaps Daniel knows his strength isn't running the ball and says to him, "Only run it when you need to,"?

He's a smart man, DA. And frankly, yes - Ben's attack in the back-row has been poor. But he's made some brilliant tackles and defensive decisions out there.

I don't know. He has the body - he just needs to develop it a bit further and knuckle down. I remember hearing that Anderson doesn't rate Ben as a centre, so if that is true, he's probably told Ben, "Look, if you want to remain a first grade player here you'll need to adapt to be a forward." Personally, when I see him play, I think he's trying his heart out. He's just not that effective - yet.

Absolutely. But wouldn't it be good if Ben could take up Hindy's work-rate in defence, so that Hindy could make 20 tackles and 20 hit-ups a game? Man, we'd be so much better off imo.

Everyone says Hindy is past it in terms of attack. But I truly think he's been playing pretty well there - not the same line-breaking forward he was years ago, but he's standing in tackles, offloading and even busting the line through sheer strength.

Ben Smith has never has no leg drive, I have been saying this for years. He is just not strong enough to play in any position. He is dominated and stopped to easily. But he is a nice bloke off the field!!!

Similar to Wagon, I guess. Except Ben is bigger.

But I am fairly certain that Anderson is serious about playing him in the pack (he doesn't rate him in the backs) and if he doesn't work out, I wouldn't be surprised if he went elsewhere. I think Ben is being played in the pack because he has the potential to be solid there and because he's on a good deal and Anderson wants his money's worth, so to speak.

He should definitely get another go. Just like Cordoba and Inu, he probably is giving him a stint in Wenty to get his desire back.

I still think that if Ben can become a defensive backrower, I would rather him than Lowrie.

For some reason, our go forward doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.

With FFMM, Joe, Hindy, Mannah, Lats and recently Caylo, and throw in the contributions by Hayne and Grothe, we can afford to have a wagon like defensive backrower who doesn't need to hitup as much.

With his hitups, it's just a matter of someone teaching him a new technique. I still say he should copy grothe and get rid of the shuffle and lower his centre of gravity.

True.

I reckon if he made 40 tackles a game and 5 hit-ups it would mean Hindy could lessen his defensive work-load and we'd be better off.
