Yeh Ben may be a great Clubman but unless he's dirt cheap he really should be offloaded to free up some cap. His contribution in the back row and out wide isn't up to scratch.

With all due respect to Ben...Who says that if we said tomorrow, "Right, NRL clubs - Ben Smith's signature is up for grabs!" that many, if any, teams would show interest?

And if a team did show interest, and he kicked on and became a star, people would complain.

Look at how long it took Ash Graham to finally start playing well again after breaking down so many times with injuries.

Don't be surprised if Poore re-signs with the dragqueens.
The longer and longer the negotiations go for the more i feel he ain't going anywhere.

I think its the other way around

If he was gonna stay he would have signed with them

Why? My guess is this........

He is holding a charity night (due to his time in Rawanda) down at west leagues club (in the illawarra) its either on sometime this week or next. I suspect he will announce where he is going after this night sometime. You would think signing with the dragons would be a good boost for the charity, announcing he is going elsewhere may not be a good look for the night when your trying to attract local people.

I wonder if Rawanda and the fact Hindy was also on the trip (and also resigned at the eels for the next 3 yrs) will sway Poore to Parra?

Last time Smith played for Parra he was outplayed by Lowrie, if he isn't good enough for the centre's anymore he shouldn't be in the team.

im sorry but ben smith is a centre. i would rather him in there and inu to the wing and bye bye to burt...
who cant currently goal kick, if he could we would have won against souths.
inu can leap and kick...smith can defend for him and have mortimer inside him

do we need to re-negotiate his offer now that he's made the blues side???

surely that puts the dragons out of the equation now as he will be asking extra cash as a rep player. Now its up to us whether we are prepared to pay more. Fine line isn't it.

the rep games are normally treated as a bonus so it was probably already in his contract/offer

doesn't it effect the cap then?

If so both he, Weymen & Creagh will make things that little more harder. Unless they have a good accountant. ;-)

Stagger I doubt it, 300K is a fair amount for a forntrower and the only players that are on much more are guys like Civ and Price who are without doubt the best 2 props in the game. Guys like Bailey and Asotasi are probably on similar money and are up there aswell, but outside of that it is over to pay for a prop.

I actually don't care if we don't get Poore (I would like it tbh) but if we get shackelton and maybe 1-2 other decent options like a Stuart then we can go out for looking a prop for 2011 after guys like Hauraki, Cayless and Burt are out of contract. I would be happy with:

Cayless
Keating
Fui
Hindmarsh
Shackelton
Galovua

Robenson
Horo
Latimore
Mannah

While it isnt a great pack, there is still plenty of go forward in that team. I actually think we need to be replacing backrower more than frontrower (as they are more depleted) but obviously picking up someone like Poore would advantagous just not nessesary IMO.

yeh, it does

hence why teams exceed the cap,

hard to see the future without a crystal ball,

there are a few newbies in the Blues team so that will effect some clubs bonus payments to players that they may not have budgeted for

Need one prop at least.
Agree a little but we dont need Poore.

With Cayless, Moimoi, Latimore, Mannah and Paulo we could do with 1 more prop and possibly have Cayless play in the backrow.

BUT our backrower next year are

Hindy, Galovua (assuming Mateo at 5-8) followed by guys like Robenson, Horro, Benny and Hauraki - those 4 players are yet to relay hold up a spot in 1st grade or have yet to play. Atleast of our props next year Paulo and Mannah have played extended periods in the top grade and Lats looked good in his only appearance. I think we are more in need of backrowers than Props. I would be happy with;

Stapelton
Stuart -unaware of contract status
S.Manu - as above

a young up and coming origin level prop is exactly what this side needs. Tim is doing great and latimore showed promise but Fui and Hindy are our only first class forwards. we need a good balance between youth and experience. We got the money for Poore, why not use it.

Also we have no depth in the front row, you atleast want fringe front rowers running around in NSW cup being latimore and Paulo.
