Im not saying he should be the Aust no.1 but im just curious, does anyone here rate Patten? He has been our player of the year 2 yrs running and has started this year as our best again, to me he seems like a very under rated player.

I don't know about underrated. I think everyone rates him. He's a terrific fullback but unfortunately for him he's playing in an era chock full of great fullbacks. He'd do the job for the roos, he's just way behind in the pecking order.

hunt for sure, he has done nothing to lose the spot despite being injured last time out. karmichael is the long term no.1

however i couldnt care less if they just stacked the team full of nsw'men which they will do anyway. its only the mid season test.

Stewart is the incumbant, and as you say for hunt has done nothing to lose the spot, therefore Stewart should get first crack.

Good to see the old fashion chip on the shoulder is alive and well North of the Tweed.

He's also done nothing to gain his spot back,Minichiello missed his spot due to injury and is yet to get it back despite playing quite well.

Stewart will get the gig.

I honestly have no idea on the backline. Assuming Lockyer is fit..

1. Hunt
2. Folau
3. Gasnier
4. Hodges
5. Inglis
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston

with Greg Bird in there somewhere as he is the best lock in the game.

Folau has been disappointing so far in 08, Hayne has been in better form IMO.

However thay will likely stick with the side that toweled up NZ barring a few injuries

Whoever's picking Bell for QLD needs to lay off the PCP. He'll be lucky to be playing NRL when Matai comes back.

wouldn't swap Gidley for any of them. can't believe the likes of Patten are getting mentioned ahead of him.

I reckon Kidley is a more valuable club player but not as suited to the rep style of fullback. As I said in another thread, I wouldn't swap him for anyone.

Gids utility value seems to take him out of the running for any rep fullback spots. He def is the forgotten man in here

Yeah Gidley is a good little fullback, but because he's not a specialist he's never really going to get that spot.

As for Patten being in front of him,why wouldn't he?
Patten is a damn good fullback and wouldn't be out of place in any representative side.

i dont think slater is in THAT muich better form than to stewart to warrant both the no 1 job or all the masssive support he's garnering on this thread, people talk about the two as if its andrew johns in his heydey up against john morris for the australian halfback spot....according to stats from nrl.com stewart has the edge, and even if you dont look at stats I dont think slater is going that much better anyway to knock off the incumbent

Save the debate and give it to Inglis, much better value than on the wing.

So we are to assume that somehow this bloke who has had one good game in any position over the past 2 years is all of a sudden the greatest of them all when shifted to fullback? Please, why is it this bloke gets so many wraps when he does nothing to deserve it.

You've gotta be joking

Why? He's a great player but what's he done to deserve the spot this year over Slater and Stewart?

Nothing. He hasn't done anything this year (apart from taking Anasta's head off) to warrant rep selection. He'll have to earn his spot back and so far he's been outshone.

Mince did nothing to lose his spot apart form injury, but that didn't help him win back the jersey.

I'd give Slater a go. He's in white hot form right now and it would be mad not to capitalise on his confidence.
