Article by Robert Dillon in the Newcastle Herald.

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3159360/knights-take-it-slowly-on-road-to-recovery/?cs=306

Not a lot of detail just it seems that its all about locals and no timeframe for success.
They're making it sound good without actually telling us anything.

Why not tell us about these goals they've been kicking behind the scenes and what their vision is?

Without being too critical, because I can't be bothered, it sounds like a deflection of criticism article.

Awesome, more sprouting about how we had good juniors during the glory years so that must be the formula to success now!

These guys have no idea, has it ever occurred to them that we no longer have the calibre of players like the johns brothers, chief, mids etc. They also said it themselves that all our junior teams are failing, so we pretty much have no talent coming through.

We have to recruit from outside the club ffs.

The difference is that those all those juniors were Internationals, a long way from what we have got now.

We need a board that is going to have the knights competitive each and every season. The more success we have, the more revenue we raise with more sponsorships and crowds. People want to associate with success and not an idealology that doesn't result in a competitive team with a realistic chance of competing for the premiership.

People will have choices to make with their hard earned and won't part with it if the team is not competitive.

The knights need to change their mindset and recruit to make the team competitive irrespective of where the players comes from.

It should also be mentioned that the 97 Knights premiership team had more outsiders in the 17 than juniors.

The fact of the matter is that 2 premierships in 18 years and has hardly won any matches in the semi finals in the very few years they have made it is a dismal and diabolical performance record over a long period of time.

The new Board so far has not provided any evidence that they are performance driven and so far a lot of aspects of the club has gone backwards.

The difference is that those all those juniors were Internationals, a long way from what we have got now.

We potentially have a decent spine coming through (Mamo, Lamb, Cogger, Levi (who is from Wellington!), and potentially some good forwards in King, Salifiti (x2), Fitzgibbon and Yates.

If they all kick on we have the core of a good side in 5 years time.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't plug the holes for the next 2-3 years until they are ready.

There is also no guarantee any of them will kick on, or that they will stay with us. Mamo is the most NRL ready right now and hasn't exactly set the world on fire.

We also don't exactly have the best record of junior development in the past 10-15 years, which given it is *always* our focus is concerning to say the least.

It is a massive risk to put all of our eggs in that basket without being prepared to supplement it through smart cap management and astute recruitment. We have been so since before Joey retired with little to show for it.

So they're gutting the place to save money and that's going to improve our results?

Apparently we can't afford to be good.

Our cash flow comes largely from results - good results means good crowds, sponsors, merchandise, TV exposure.

So naturally the way forward is to run on a shoestring and shrug our shoulders when we can't keep up with the rest.

I just posted a link to our facebook page in the Knights supporters facebook group. The members jumped by 15 in about half an hour, with more losses the more people will come to the page.

Today's effort was the perfect example of our problem. Close enough is deemed good enough. The problem is the club will be telling themsleves they have turned the corner after today. Snowden's body language after scoring the last try for us said plenty to me. He is a very frustrated man.

Unfortunately it means there's more people saying we're kicking them when they're down and calling us pricks

Ah well, take the bad with the good I suppose, the page is growing nice and steadily.

anyone keen to put up a banner or the like on friday? I'd be happy to help.

Friday night live on 9 would be the perfect time.

How do we go about converting these types of fans (that seem to be the majority)?

You'd have to figure out what language she was speaking first...

But seriously - that is the fan the club is relying on. That you support them through thick or thin. She isn't our target audience.

There are a lot of them out there.

There are heaps that genuinely think that the refs are why we are second last and that we are playing well.

Give it time. I'm sure there were people who liked the page after today's pathetic display who thought it was a bad idea. We won't convert them all, but enough will come.

It's really good we didn't get a lucky win at the end today. That would have kept them happy for a very long time. The more successive loses the better if we're trying to force change. I wish we hadn't won that Tigers game.
