El, you'd be rapt on the eve of the semis if Killer decided to come back!

Don't know about El but I'd be more than rapt if we even had a another game to play on the eve of the semis. Lyon returning just to watch the finals from the stands would be of little interest.

Misty, I agree with most you say but on the issue of Lyon I do not. I have wanted to see the back end of Smith since the 99 finals but can't condone what Lyon did in walking out. If he felt so strongly about Smith he should have been honest and up front about it at the time. He said nothing, not even to his team mates, he just slinked away like the skunk he is.

I don't want Lyon back, let him go play out his contract for WeeWa and send Smith to coach WeeWa for the rest of his contract as well. Now wouldn't that be ironic

Thanks Parraren, i was too excited making my point but i dont use caps when in a hurry as im not a fast typer.
Anyway, Smithy has been given time to establish a winning side but we are going backwards as he is not evolving as a coach nor person.
His perchant to get too cute like you just were he outsmarts himself!
And his pet projects each year to improve our team is based on tunnel vision eg. bigger is better when the top 2 or 3 sides on the NRL table have average size but very mobile, skillful and free spirited workers.
Happier now Parraren, hope you bring something into the discussion i mean something worthwhile instead of giving me tips how you prefer to read text!

I beleive that Jamie's walkout is part of the current problem with most of the players.

Too much money, too much time and no responsibility.

What is Jamie saying to youngsters who adore him - It's alright to turn your back on responsibility, regardless of how you affect others. When the going gets tough get the f... out! Forget about your team, your mates and the fans. They can suffer.

Whether he got on with Smith or not shouldn't matter.

Actually, if that was to happen, I wouldn't play him. I would stay loyal to the players that got me there, rather than let this prima dona just waltz back into the side. It's a different story if it was an injured gun who had supported the team the whole time.

Jamie Lyon cracks under pressure. He is not paid to like the coach (and it hasn't been proved or revealed that he doesn't) he is paid to do as he is told as a player. The coach is paid to coach..Lyon is paid to play...separation of powers..
Jamie Lyon has lost all rights to sympathy.
If he has been talking with Manly about a switch to that Club, severe fines should be incurred by Manly for breaching the anti tampering laws. If he is threatening the Eels to "spill the beans" if not granted a release he should be charged with blackmail or extortion. (obtaining a benefit thru threats)...
He made his bed, let him lie in it.

I agree with you on some issues parra pete.
IF!!! he did leave because of Smithy, he is acting like a spoilt prick.
You don't walk out on your team mates...your good mates, especially when the team is struggling.
But if there were other fair reasons for his walkout, then I take it all back.

Disagree, only because 99% of us also reckon Smith is killing players careers because he is a shit coach. ONe player takes action - thusconfirming what we expect, and all of a sudden we attack him and back the coach????

As I have said, I won't put the daggers into Jamie until there is actually a reason to do so.

Brian Smith hasn't performed all year, either. At least Jamie isn't standing in the way of someone else. And he's not getting paid any more while he's out.

El, how many other species can he be at the same time? ;-)

Smith would be the same coach now as he was when Lyon signed his contract.

Also, if he goes to Manly, how does he know Hasler is any better?

It's not about backing the coach. It's about how Lyon left. If he had of been upfront in the first place and said his piece then I would say fair enough but he wasn't, he gave other reasons. He left without even saying a word to his team mates and I find that totally inexcusable and unforgivable.

It's what he does with the talent which is of concern to all of us. Notice we've just lost 4 straight games at home pete?

Things happen in cycles. Take the good with the bad. Lose some win some. The Club does not need shit games like the ones against Storm and Dragons, but it will turn around. It is still early. The changes this week will at least inject some enthusiasm into the camp. I would have preferred to see Morris kept instead of Webster (Wach chew talking bout Willis). I don't rate Webster AT ALL.. Mick Witt will need to have improved to keep Benji Marshall under control I have a feeling that Witt might start at half with Feliti at stand off. Just a thought. Not sorry to see Grothe rested. He can score a try, but boy he lets a few in too. Bit like Stuart Macgill in cricket can take a wicket but they belt him around in the process. It won't hurt Eric to have a week off. He'll be back OK. Keep the faith.

Clear a few things up-

5-Thanks For Kylie, Dunner, Hex and no doubt more of your juniors in the near future

I live on the northern beaches and going form what the Manly Daily says, Manly has some real issues with numbers in regards to their junior clubs (especially A grade), so it doesn't surprise that you need Parra juniors. but that is probably for another forum.

Actually Dunley came to the Eels from Manly. We just put the polish on him and upped the ante for him to get a pay rise from the "chip chewers" Same as we put the polish of Heckenberg after we resuurected his career at St George, and fat Kylie from the Roosters, Those blokes should be down on their knees thanking Brian Smith and Parramatta for giving them a chance at making a quid without working. They could be pulling beer at Wee Waa for $16.32 an hour ($1-43 extra after 7pm)

I think everybody with a job can leave it when they like, can't they?

I'll refuse to judge Lyon for leaving, until the ultimate outcome happens. Until he signs with Manly, I'll take Ray Hadley's words with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

All I see is a player refusing to play for a sh*t coach, and who is doing the right thing for himself. Sure, a contract is a contract, but uless we know FOR CERTAIN every detail about that contract, whose to say that Parra haven't broken it by not providing, say, a decent coach? If Lyons contract had a clause that involved Cleal's participation with the lub, then the contract has possibly been oided by Parra.

That's why I don't judge Killer. I hope sanity prevailes, and that Killer will return as Smith leaves at the end of the year.

One thing I am damn sure of, Killer has not left TO join Manly.

As per the letter getting to Hadlee, well, he and Fitzy are mates, are they not? Twould be easier for Fitzy to take the decision re Smith with the media AND the public on board.

Of course people can walk out on their jobs.

What I meant is that professional people in the main do not do that.

It's unprofessional, it's reprehensible, it's totally lacking of morals.
