Here's an idea Grant.

Make sure you pay the coin to resign your best juniors and you won't have any issues. You can't keep them all.

It's hilarious how much this MacDougall gronk is crying about the Roosters

Wests release Andrew Fifita and then go and sign Adam Blair, Fifita has a breakout year and these gronks want compensation

Any talk about compensation for juniors would need to put a limit on how many juniors you could claim. Imagine the Broncos raking in a fortune from all the kids who come through the grades in Brisbane.

Its pretty obvious mayer is talking about the dogs and not the roosters.
Looking at the roosters team for this week theres only about 5 players that come from other clubs unlike the sharks and dogs whose teams are full of them.
The tigers are paying the price for having shit coaches and retention. i didnt hear many complaints when the were releasing all their juniors, and lets face it the one's that left were mostly shit anyway.
No clubs will be able to complete with the like of saints(who have all the sth coast), newcastle,Brisbane and Penrith. Even the panthers have realised you can't just rely on juniors and have bought up big lately. Get with the times,it's a professional league.
While most clubs will go out and buy 1 or 2 big players what the dogs have done over the last few yrs has blown everyone out of the water and like everyone else i can't believe a club could buy that many players.

What about when Manly in the 1970s stole so many of South Sydney's and North Sydney's stars to win a premiership or two?

Manly bought John O'Neill, Ray Branigan, Arthur Branigan, from Souths, Ken Irvine from Norths, plus the magnificent Malcolm Reilly from Castleford. Did anyone compensate those clubs?

Grant Meyer is an arrogant, irritating loud mouth. I have dealt with him personally and I don't like the guy.

The fact he's ticked you off is actually a glowing recommendation of the man.

Fancy the hide of the man, pushing hard to get the best for his club. You'd almost think it was his job or something....

Let me guess - he got the better end of the deal and you're a tad bitter?

Our SG Ball side is running second. In the last 5 years we have consistently finished top 4. Our Harold Matts team drew with Penrith last week and most of those players are born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

I've always said there should be some sort of compensation/transfer fee for developing juniors.

However I hardly feel sympathy for the Tigers considering the amount of juniors they've willingly moved on and are now counting them as part of the 24.

Who did the Tigers lose that they were desperate to keep?

Wanker! JNR's.... Get with the times Mayer. Remember when Balmain n LOL@ took Jnr's from Easts, Newtown, etc? I'd much rather see the Jets in the NRL..

There used to be a transfer fee back in the old days from memory .

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but yes, the Tigers are still paying part of Gibb's and Fifita's contract, this is the last year they are doing so however, also the Tigers are paying a small portion of Heighington's contract.
Beau is the only one we got from the Tigers where the contract has no payments from them involved.

The only one we could possibly be paying is Gibbs

Fifita and heighno were NEVER under tigers contracts fr 2014. The whole reason heighno left was because we wouldn't give him an extension past 2014.

If your going to make stuff up might want to check your facts first

Can someone against Mayer's points answer me this.

Why should the Tigers, Warriors, Broncos, Raiders and all other clubs with good junior bases spend A DIME on junior development when there is almost no benefit to them in doing so? They will just have to pay market price in any case for those players when they are seen by other clubs.

It's not about having a winge, it's just saying. Hey, there's no point in us investing in juniors so unless you give us a reason to we'll stop doing it and just buy players off the market.

I'm not against his point, I just think he's making himself look bad the way he's doing it.

As I asked before, who are the 24 and how many of them were the Tigers desperate to keep?

Question:

And i know it's very unlikey, but what IF club's like the Tigers follow through with their threats and stop pumping money into junior football?

What happens to RL if this happens?
Maybe something for the NRL to consider.

An allowance or some reward for juniors should be on the agenda before a marquee player allowance imo.

Making it fair is the challenge I guess.

sheens was instrumental in setting up many of our junior pathways, most notably of course Keebra Park. He opened up that channel which started with Benji and some really good players have just come over from that school which won the state champs (i think). Marion Seve is a clear standout centre, doing well in NYC too.
Tigers have not given a cent to Seve's junior club.
