WTF? Why on earth would you have a go at Foran for his on field performance? Arguably the only reason we won a couple of games and jumped out to a lead in another was because of his influence.
Mate.. Foran has done sfa to improve the dynamics of that team.
We have seem maybe 3 flashes of brilliance from the spine, the rest is same old, same old.

I am not disputing Foran's footballing brilliance, but I am saying he has fallen into the same ' couldn't really give a f**k' attitude most of his team mates are happy with.

Since he arrived at Uncle Jim's Home for troubled footballers, the talks been there but I'm still waiting to see the walk.
He's been average...

I personally think that Foran has one foot in Sydney. South Africans have a perfectly apt term for that...Soutpiel
Although that moreso describes englishmen.

I agree

I like Uncle Jim, but he's invested a lot in the Isaac Luke and Keiran Foran baskets - the former has been shit, the latter ok, but at the end of the day has stalled the development of younger halves for very little gain.

Uncle Jim has also invested a lot in Johnson as a #7, might sell jerseys, I guess... whether it will win comps is open for debate

I said on here a couple of years ago the Warriors will never win a grand final with Johnson at 7.
I haven't changed mt mind.
I now wonder if we can make the 8 with Johnson at 7.
He just can't run a team.

Whoever said that should be shot at dawn.

lol, it was a satirical article

The Roar can be a bit confusing that way - they throw up those pieces in the main RL section with only a little "HA!" symbol to denote that... catches people (usually those not familiar with the site) every time. Poe's law and all that.

The rest of the article is fairly amusing (references to 20-something jerseys and brand awareness etc)

Oh got it, my bad!

But it is kinda scary that imo it's entirely possible some muppet in our setup would have said that.

Basically no accountability for bad performances results in this culture.

Reason for no accountability is because we don't have the depth of players to call on to replace those in top grade not performing.

We all know where the problems lie. The big difference from the Australian setup to ours is the development system and how competitive it is over there. These big Maori and Polynesian boys grow up in NZ and demolish their opposition week after week due to sheer size and natural talent without using barely any EFFORT. In Aus you have the odd big fella but it's mostly an even playing field which means you are competing that much harder just to earn your spot in the team, let alone actually winning a game of rugby league.

NZ Rugby League is never going to be the product we want It to to be and the only reason we've had any success is due to our players growing up under the ARL's setup. Unfortunately there is no solution or fix, we are always going to be under the pump and will rarely have success at club level.

Yep, Anglo-South Africans. One foot in the UK, one foot in Africa. If things get scary they'll flee to England. Afrikaners, on the other hand, are living and dying in South Africa.

A good forward pack is what I think would do the trick.

Yeah let's not over analyze this, just put together a bigger pack with some mongrel and defense and rest will probably take care of itself (getting to the finals). The game is nigh on impossible when your pack sucks.

Worlds best rugby player Barret was utterly negated the other week when the crusaders smashed the hurricanes pack.

Gotta admit though of the saffers ive known (and it's quite a few, especially when I worked in Auckland) I generally found the Anglo-saffers from the Cape a nicer bunch than the Boers.

Not sure I completely agree on the latter - while we don't have to go full Newcastle on it, we should suck it up and focus on a few of the younger forwards (and halves) - in the short term we won't win the comp (but we won't anyway)

If Thompson's undroppable with the shit he's serving up, then we're just going to get more of the same - a few wins through origin while the others suffer, then another collapse

Saw an interesting comment from Hurrrell over the weekend

Said what a huge difference it has made that he can go out and play footy, not worried that if he makes an error or 2 he will be dropped straight back to reserve grade like he was with the Warriors. Thinking back you could see that in him as well, one example in particular when he was being used as an interchange forward, spilt the ball 1st run and it looked like the weight of the world was on his shoulders

Then on the other hand, we see guys who week after week stink it up, and continue to get picked

That has to create a very strange environment in the squad, where you have some guys playing scared, which you can probably see in lack of offloads, while others coast along knowing 90% will be enough to get a run the next week

yep, and generally it's the younger ones that get treated like that - Thompson (my pet dislike atm) has a low upside and has been unequivocally shit yet I am pretty certain will be in the starting team next week - yet Afoa, Vete, Lisone, Sao et al come and go on the basis of rather little, and the likes of the Sipleys never get a shot

We spend $$ rehabbing (perhaps) Foran who essentially keeps Hingano and Lino in reggies, and his on-field contributions aren't IMO as stellar as some in the media want to argue

Yeah the Foran one is a mystery to me, watch Matty Johns show etc and they have him number 1 buy of the year for the huge difference he has made to the Warriors, who now sit 14th

I think he is trying, but his body looks shot, and has for 3-4 seasons now. I know certainly his last season and a half at Manly there was a big drop off in form and consistency

Buy of the year? Can't be many good ones about - as you say, we're 14th, they must really think we're shit
