Established Rugby UNION market

Clearly they do comparing RU v RL in NZ registered players, tv audiences, support of their international sides and revenue raised by the governing bodies

Sky NZ arent paying anything for NZ2. Australian Tv hold over 90% of the tv value

Yep christchurch has a nicer stadium everything else they are way behind us

Most born or grew up in Australia

City with no NRL club, little funding and little RL presence fails to produce players in said sport. Shocking revelation!
Sky aren’t going to pay more for a second nz side ? Sure bro now your copying what a union troll says

crowds this year outside of Auckland have shown kiwis are keen for more league games

the reality is we can easily capture a big part of the nz market whilst we could throw hundreds of millions at Perth and capture a small part of the market

plus nz produce way more nrl players and strengthen international comp

nz2 beats Perth on just about every metric

it’s not even arguable

They've paid the same for two previous deals and only upped it this time for one reason. And that reason is no longer in play. so why would they? With no competition we'll be lucky to get the $32mill we got last time let alone more.

Whose saying they arent? Im sure a team in wellington or Christchurch can draw 12-15k crowd avgs.

hundreds of millions?? A perth club will cost the NRL exactly the same as another NZ club. Based on population, corporate support and Govt support, financially which of the bid areas stacks up best? Capturing a big part of small Christchurch up against an entrenched union isnt going to be easy at all.

player development, yep we've covered that

only in your head. Do you find it strange that Vlandys has talked up 4 potential expansion areas in the last 8 weeks and totally ignored mentioning NZ?

it very much is, as we are doing lol

It’s hilarious seeing pommie league fans talk about australia being insular at test level and focusing on origin

then when we talk about adding png and nz2 partly to help test football you guys don’t like it

international football is where the big growth lies now. Domestically there is little growth left outside of qld

NRL wont choose Club 18 based on the value to Int RL. Its spent the last 13 years doing its best to ignore or sabotage it lol
If Int RL was the driver PNG would be where they'd go next.

Reality is it will likely be neither.

Png is team 18 and it’s not part of Australia

Australia is insular at test level and does over focus on origin.

png is doomed to fail for obvious reasons already stated and NZ2 is a must but as of yet nobody has shown interest in New Zealand for financial backing.

if only the Aussie officials agreed with you.

Not our fault england have been crap at test level for almost 40 years

interstate football goes back to 1908

it’s popular because it’s competitive and feeds into the qld Inferiority complex

tonight’s dead rubber will still get more than any test match

england is the insular one. Killing off the Wolfpack. Failure to develop France wales Scotland. Over reliance on poor Aussie imports. It’s local league made up of a small part I england

I'm starting to think that we should scrap the idea of NZ2 for a decade or two and fund a QLD cup style competition over there instead. I have no idea how much it would cost, but say a salary cap for an NRL team each year, would that be enough or overkill?
