New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

A png team will be based in Cairns, made up of overseas born players and funded by an overseas government...

What even makes them a png team?

It doesn't work on so many levels that it makes my nose bleed...

It's almost as if government will say and promise anything no matter how unrealistic... they don't do that..do they?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Like I’ve previously stated hopefully it’s all just noise and the usual government of the day paying lip service to the idea.

It’s a doubly stupid idea as long-term a PNG/pasifika NRL team can’t exist without government handouts as long as PNG are a 3rd world country and this financial disaster of a club waiting to happen would be taking the place of another potential NRL expansion club in either Perth, New Zealand, south east Queensland, Adelaide or even Melbourne 2 etc.

That’s why the only long term sustainability I could see would be to base them in nz and split games between png and nz. Not a great idea but it’s literally the only way I could see it surviving long term. Oceana Orcas anyone? The union version is failing pretty badly but never know with govt money backing a rl version might fair better?

spending $10mill a year developing digicell cup clubs into professional outfits with full academies and women’s set ups and adding another qrl cup side and u19’s in qrl comp would be a better outcome for pngrl for the next decade Imo.

I’m going to forward your concerns to Peter vlandys and Anthony albanese before they make this colossal mistake

It’s just a bad idea all-round and unworkable on so many levels.

The better approach for PNG and the NRL would be to develop and expand the hunters team in the Queensland cup by creating youth teams at mal meninga and hasting deerings colts level and entering them in those competitions.

id also add another PNG based club from Lae into the Queensland cup with the exact same youth teams.

Yeh posted elsewhere that spending $10mill a year turning the digicell cup professional and developing men’s and women’s game in png would be far better long term outcome for pngrl than throwing $25mill at an nrl club till it falls over.

100%

throw in grassroots development at school level in each province and the returns for both PNGRL and the NRL would be huge.

Wasn’t that long ago we had the party in charge being best friends with China and a pm who spoke it fluently, times change as do govt’s and national policies.
Oh well if you voted for labor take solace in you helped png get an nrl team

I think it's great, no doubt but they don't have 2 cents to rub together.
When you're a poverty stricken country and everyone is just trying to survive... and you really surprised that they get this response?
It's literally the only good thing to happen .
We need paying customers mate.
None of these people are paying for foxtel, None of these people are paying for a $60 sideline ticket.

What you're seeing is probably to the power of 100 , literally 100 papuans will bring the financial support of 1 not even dedicated Australian or kiwi brings.
Seriously, what about poverty do you not understand?

Different party and different country but echoing this sentiment Tory prime minister in UK sunak has just announced a massive rollback(thank god) of green policies.

If theres one thing I’ve learnt from my time following politics it’s not to believe the promises made by politicians.

there’s a reason why politicians become politicians.
Oh well just wait a few months and see if he’s lieing

250 million invested to grow rugby league sure sounds like something league fans would normally be positive about
