PNG only works if they are based in Port Moresby. Maybe if a gated community was built for the players and they don't have to pay tax it would be viable

A png team will be based in Cairns, made up of overseas born players and funded by an overseas government...

What even makes them a png team?

It doesn't work on so many levels that it makes my nose bleed...

It's almost as if government will say and promise anything no matter how unrealistic... they don't do that..do they?

Yes I totally agree but that shows what a dumb arse idea a png nrl club is right now. Basing a club in a different country is ludicrous really but it’s only way it could ever work.

And you can ignore the travel demands it will place in the club but it will be a factor in a player signing, from someone who regularly flies trust me 48 flights a year with at least half of them being international flights will get very old very quick for players.

I’d think for most players thad be a god send to be able to go out without being in a goldfish bowl! Maybe not the panthers media whores bit for most? yeh away from the spotlight is pretty appealing.

that’s why in other codes the teams In expansion areas struggle to keep their players

Well melbourne players have mentioned numerous times how nicer it is not to be in the Sydney or Brisbane goldfish bowl. Sure there is show ponies in the game but not the majority I’d suggest, buyt yeh facing down the mean streets of Port Moresby over a quiet day on Rottnest with your family is a no brainer lol

That’s why they had to spend over the salary cap to keep them

cause they liked the anonymity of Melbourne and not the free boat in the driveway
