the idea of a team representing all of the “islands” is borderline insulting as well, it’s basically limping a bunch of completely diverse cultures into one basket, might well call it the poor brown guys team.
Pretty sure that’s how white australia see it lol

No I just read the reports about what they plan to do

when you have 250 million spare you can invest it in a way you think is superior lmao
Let’s say hypothetically all the $25mill goes to running the nrl club, which it won’t. Nrl will want its slice for sure.
You’re Looking at accomodation and training facilities in cairns needed. You’re looking at significantly less fanbases revenue than a normal nrl team. the level of corporate support is a total unknown. Nrl is losing money from tv who get no value and increased production costs from a png club. nrl has to pay significantly increased travel, insurance and accomodation costs for the new club. And you need a significant investment in jnrs in at least png and possibly other countries if the ridiculous pacifika idea sticks. That’s $25mill, if it’s that, will soon be gone.
good luck!

Didn’t a politician and political party promise to build the Penrith panthers a brand new stadium on a new site away from the current stadium?
Not to mention rebuilding Accor, hosting c’wealth games, no gst. Politicians and ‘changed priorities’ go hand in hand! I’ve been in aged care meetings in canberra where funding promises have literally changed as the meetings happen!

Decent idea. Could possibly add a couple of NZ regional sides too though not Auckland/Warriors as they’d just dominate it. Possibly Darwin as well.

probably less Fiji/PNG teams too so as not to spread the talent too much.

Fiji x 2 (Suva, Nadi/Lautoka)
PNGx 3 (Port Moresby, Lae, Highlands)
Samoa
Tonga
Cook Islands
Wellington
Christchurch
Darwin

that’s 11- maybe see if the French are interested in adding a team from New Caledonia to make even numbers.
potentially Waikato/BoP in NZ too (or both).

The main issue is probably economic viability with the travel aspect.
I’d rather see the money got to making the digicell cup ft professional with major pathway structures under each of the clubs in that comp. bring in a second qrl cup team as well. That would be massive for rl development in png as well as generate their own superstars and help out their economy.
Could then be screened in aus. Imagine finally getting another ft league in world rugby league, now that would be something to celebrate!

Having a load of australia and kiwi players living in cairns and flying into png to play games will do virtually nothing Other than give a politician some good media opportunities.

Ok you spend your time hoping albanese is lieing to get some cred on the internet

lmao
It’s got nothing to do with me hoping that albanese is lying or not and getting some cred on the internet matters not a jot mate if the policy of putting an NRL team in PNG isnt viable long-term.

Wtf you on about? I don’t trust wa govt either which is why I’ve been asking if nrl have put what they want from them on the table. Wa govt have said they won’t fund the club, but infrastructure much more likely and once built they can hardly change their mind!

I’ll send your concerns too albo and vlandys

you and @Brian potter can schedule a meeting to give him your expert advice

I mean poms are such experts at expansion of course they should listen

Why not but it will probably break on the first day.

Funny thing:
China: 1.5 billion people, global economic powerhouse and military super power...
How do we counter that ??

I know! A Rugby league team in Papua new Guinea 😎

Has anyone even tried a sausage sizzle??

You can't make this shit up.
Well if you voted for albo look in the mirror lmao

I know when I voted for albo I had this as a possibility

You don’t have to be a expansion expert mate to see how a NRL franchise from a poor 3rd country dependent on government handouts from another country and who the majority of the population don’t have a pot to p#ss in never mind a window to throw it out of will end up once the handouts stop.

Last time the poms successfully expanded our game was in 1922 with cas

I don't vote.
Regardless, not one media outlet has pointed out the ridiculous nature of this suggestion or opposition for that matter...
Nobody calls bs anymore and things are going from bad to worse because of it. Families can't afford a roof over their head, groceries or Heating but let's throw money at a rl team in the Pacific.... nothing to see here.. carry on.
We are headed for disaster and only once a full disaster is realised will people wake up.

Well if it’s not third world shoot me

you guys stuffed up Toronto Wolfpack

your league faces ever decreasing tv deals

we should do the opposite of what poms think is right
Again what does any of this have to do with awarding a poor 3rd country that has a large percentage of the population living below the poverty line an NRL franchise that will be dependent on government handouts from a foreign government?
