Think I’m going to watch your team get eliminated tonight

up the wahs
Just finished - Wigan 42 HKR 12.

Pies pretty comfortable in the end. Probably start favourites next week.

Got to hand it to Rovers fans. Big turnout for an early kick-off. And stuck around as the points piled up. Boot on the other foot would have triggered the Wigan Walk.

Sadly couldn't find the National 1992 final on youtube.
One game at Addington Show grounds I remember watching was the 1988 GB World Cup test against the Kiwis. Part of the Lions tour. Coverage wasn't in the BBC TV listings. But tuned in, just on the off chance, in the early hours of a Sunday morning and there it was - live from Christchurch, NZ.

We were on a high after destroying the Aussies at the SFS in the third test the week before. That game had also carried WC points. So we needed to beat the Kiwis to make the final.

Result was NZ 12 GB 10. Tense and ultimately frustrating last quarter as we sought the winning score. Kiwis tenacious in defence. Had an answer to everything we threw at them. Mark Graham and Sam Stewart instrumental.

Which led to the NZ v Oz final later in the year at Eden Park in front of a record crowd of 47, 363. Noteworthy feature of internationals in that era was neutral officials. Mick Stone took NZ v GB. All three Oz v GB tests had a French ref. The final had a PNG ref.

Yes love watching that 1988 final but didn't know about neutral officals espeically one from PNG :).
Loved know what the feeling was like 1988 as it seemed to be a turning point for the best of the game both Australia and new Zealand.

League has PIs/NZers pretending to be Australian to play Origin (and the pay cheque), it’s not all that different.
You don’t have to rep Australia to play SOO anymore. RL’s real problem is that almost all of it’s international representatives are Australians, Kiwis, or Poms playing for other nations for pay cheques.

People here bag RU and teams like the Brave Blossoms, but on average all those teams have a significantly higher percentage of born and raised and resident players in their teams compared to the average international RL side, and only the deluded or ignorant would suggest otherwise.

In recent times RL has put almost all it’s effort into trying to trick people into believing that it’s international reach is comparable to other major international sports rather than genuinely trying to expand the sport’s reach.

International RL’s current eligibility laws have turned it into even more of a joke than it was before. It’s living up to what used to largely be a stereotype of it being completely manufactured at this point.

You get sensitive when we point out the shortcomings of your favourite sport don't you Dane. Don't worry, I'm sure the Japanese Tongans will go well in the next Woeld Cup and you'll be able to catch them live 😉

Think he’s jumped off the brumbies bandwagon and is more just anti league with a bias towards afl

it all started when Canberra went back to the arl and the super league dream was crushed
