Reality is if png weren’t getting so much money nz would’ve been next

no bid can rival what they offer not even close

in the space of a year we’ve gone from a medium sized sport to a mainstream sport and at club level arguably number one
At 1 Point I actually preferred a PNG team, at another Perth..but after being in nz for the last 5 weeks I've realised that anything other than another nz team is a catastrophic mistake.
I'll be devastated if they aren't next, not for me but for rl . What's happening here is a Rugby league revolution .. if it is ignored for some government money or dot on a map.. sorry but that's a big mistake.

I'm preparing for that very sad outcome.

Just be patient mate

they will be team 20 nailed on

in our lifetimes we may even see 3 nz clubs

it’ll be pmg Perth then nz2

if they don’t take advantage of Albos money png would be decades away and what they can achieve with his money could be a game changer for rugby league

18. PNG
19. NZ2
20. WA1
In that order, depending on what the bears do it can change the last 2 around if ever...
Nz2 isn't a priority yet, the NRL have only just opened the door to showing NZ a competition, one thats always been running since 98, super rugby
dominates coz its flooded there. but you needed to subscribe or go to the pub to watch it, the more FTA content gets put out there, the better league will be, and UptheWahs movement will get stronger and stronger, enough that another bidder will want to cash in on a rival franchise over there.... or the bears
Either way Hamilton is the spot for me... anywhere else won't cut it, a 2nd team needs to be right on the doorstep of the 1st one

After the year the wahs have had and the decline of super rugby I would make the same argument about nz

they are the biggest rugby club in nz now

they pay 34 million for one club

even if they get 10 millon more for nz 2 it almost covers their grant and leaves the arlc to sell the extra game to Aussie tv for 50 million

other than Brisbane no other bid has any real value for tv in their own right
Why would sky nz offer $10mill more? What are the nrl going to do if they say they are offering same Like they did previous two deals? That’s the problem When there’s only one buyer and you have to sell

Eh? He literally cost the game hundreds of millions by not creating competitive tension lol
There was no competitive tension when he negotiated the dolphins entry

with the extra fta content offering the same is unrealistic

Yeh that’s the point, no competitive tension equals little increase. There was none from ch9 and questionable amount from fox.

with only one buyer nrl has little choice than to accept whatever they offer, as they had to in the past. If we keep it at the current $32mill it will be a surprise.

Yeh that’s why fox never increased how much it’s paid rugby league over 20 years

This deal was the first time ever it wasn’t put out to competitive tender In australia. And surprise surprise in Australia it realised virtually no increase.
Only nz went to open tender and saved it from being a total disaster.

just because the Dolphins have been successful (first year) doesn't mean there is demand for more teams straight away lol
NRL, Politis, Gould and just about anyone that is familiar with RL in SEQ disagrees with you. There is absolutely room for a team in the Western Corridor and they will absolutely be in the top 5 in the league instantly for attendances, membership, TV viewers and sponsorship

Who did fox compete against when they offered the nrl more money
By that same logic, the All Blacks can get low balled by the broadcasters due to lack of competition.

Ratings equal advertisers and advertisers equal dollars. If the NRL has two Kiwi teams drawing eyeballs it will be worth more to the broadcaster. Competitive tension when it exists obviously overinflates the value, but the base is how many eyeballs is the game bringing the broadcaster so they can sell advertising

That's some brains trust. No history of ignorance, prejudice, bias, flipflopping based on what's best for their club/employer in the moment, total disregard for the best interest of the sport as a whole, etc, etc, amongst that lot at all... Next you'll be holding up Buzz Rothfield's opinion as a source of great wisdom lol.

Another Brisbane/SEQ team so soon makes zero sense whatsoever, and wouldn't be necessary at all if the NRL had anything approximating a half decent administration instead of a cult of personality.

Have you considered relocating one of the other Queensland clubs if a WC team is so crucial? Or the people of Brisbane could, you know, just support the pre-existing Brisbane suburban competition if that's the sort of product they'd prefer watch. Of course that's unthinkable in a sport where the National competition actually living up to it's name a foreign concept...

Of course there is room, but we just saw the birth of one new SEQ team this season, lets not overcrowd the area with another one so soon... maybe 5-10 years, let the dolphins cement in further, the issue with the expansions in the late 90s was too many too soon, need to give some breathing space, go either to perth, nz or png then come back

Nick polites praises admission of the dolphins and says 18th team should also come from Brisbane

Phil gould emphatic next nrl club should be from Brisbane

Then we had hartcher from the qrl against the admission of the dolphins in the nrl
