he's dreaming. The current cap is locked in until 2028. IF the NRl gets a decent tv deal increase from 2028 the cap is likely to go up $2mill a club at best. Spread over 36 players that wont see $3mill contracts. Maybe by 2040 lol.
So the cap goes up by two million what’s the top player on then ?

Increased. Nrl revenue 200 million
Less nrl 50 million
Less clubs 36 million
Left over for players 114 million

Over 6 million per club or a salary cap of 18.5 million

Well top players at moment are around the $1.2mill mark. So if cap goes up 16 % ($2mill) then fair to guess top salary will match it. Up by around $200k. So all things being equal by 2033 top players will be on $1.5mill tops.

Fanciful thinking. Players have never received over 50% of revenue increase lol

Last time we had a big revenue jump (2018)
revenue went up $146mill
Player payments went up $38.4mill (28% of revenue increase)

Doesn’t work like that

clubs all chase the stars and pay overs

top players is 1.4 million plus origin sponsors and other nonsus

last time clubs got a huge chunk of the increase which won’t be repeated next time

nrl already makes profits and won’t need a lot more money

which leaves the players

Whose on $1.4mill year now?

Thats a bit naieve lol. What ever cap goes up by you can guarantee clubs will want over and above for inflationary costs over the 5 years since last deal. 2023 Cap went up $2mill and club grant was $5mill extra to cover then some. If cap goes up another $2mill+ in 2033 you can be sure the clubs will be asking for $4-5mil a year extra.
so likely the NRL will be playing clubs around $72-90mill extra out of revenue gain with players getting around $36mill of that.

I allowed 2 million extra per club

so funding of 7 million over cap

Munster is was offered 1.4 million pa

Cleary is on 1.3 milll

Dce snd Ben hunt 1.2 plus

doesn’t include origin or test payments or sponsorships or 3rd party

6 or so players earning north of a million is great, but the other 294 aren't.

There is no way the NRL is going to give $126mill of a $200mill revenue increase to the clubs lol. Never happened before.

considering how small 'world rugby' is its not much of a brag lol.
I see some baseball player just signed a $1bill 10 year deal!
It’s a huge achievement

once wages in rugby league get high enough union will just become a feeder league to the nrl and ultimately to unions demise

It seems that increasingly NRL clubs are aligning with different regions of NZ to provide more direct pathways. Its kind of a shame there isnt a better quality NZ comp with each club aligned to an NRL club similar to Qlnd cup. That would provide even stronger pathways and development opportunities.

Any club worth its salt will have scouts in NZ looking at the best 15-18 year old League and Union players already.
Any club will have scouts, but it’s not just as simple as finding the talented youngsters. You’ve got to convince them and their families to uproot their lives, fly to a new country and establish themselves in pursuit of a RL career which more often than not doesn’t turn out.

My suggestion allows those talented individuals to remain in their communities with minimal disruption to their lives and their families lives on their journey to becoming a professional athlete.

That's right but I'll add that the presence of an NRL club will inspire those kids to commit by having those examples in their community.
