70% of nrl players are Australian born, perth is in australia. That’s your logic right? Lol

Reality check
registered players in Canterbury region 2,800
registered players in WA 4,100:

christchurch has 3 of the 4 key needs in place.
great stadium
crowds for one off games shows there’s decent nrl Interest in the city
kiwis are naturally suited physically to rl so jnrs should eventually grow

one of the bids just needs to come up with a very sound business plan and ideally some investors to give nrl confidence and I can’t see why they wouldnt get in.
The region of Canterbury is now being compared with WA... WOW

I was looking at what you whould call the the URC or back in the day the Celtic League and just like unlike Super Rugby so many traditonal teams and areas have have been lost or regressed..role calls to as follows-
Wales
Bridgend
Caerphilly
Ebbw Vale
Neath
Pontypridd
Scotland
That whole Borders issue.
Super Rugby the loss in support for teams in the NPC and Currie Cup is really embarrassing.
Learning nothing from his NRL tenure, Moffett reduced the number of top tier Welsh RU sides from 9 to 5, including merging long-term rivals. 1 of these mergers only lasted a season and there is currently only 4 struggling sides with it likely to go down to 3 soon. Moffett is an empty vessel, wanted to merge RU and RL last I heard. Best avoided.

But I'm not talking just NRL players, im talking league players in general, lower grades too, and Perth is not exactly top of the spear in regards to a wealth of Australian born players, most are either from Nsw or Qld, so yeah keep pretending Perth is valuable

Been watching some of the not so Super Rugby lowlights... those crowds look awful!! Any wonder... one of the reels was of 5 consecutive penalty kicks..repeat..the " highlights " reel was penalty kicks...
That comp is dying at a dramatic rate and likely running up big deficits.. not one crowd looked like it paid the rent of the stadium, then factor in these massive squads and trainers flying to Perth, NZ and Fiji..wow

They’ve even started to take games to smaller venues now as the hurricanes played in Palmerston north recently which to be fair looked a lot better on tv than seeing thousands of empty yellow seats.

Hurricanes have always taken a game to the regions each year due to the multi province franchise model all the teams operate on, they used to cycle between Napier, Palmerston North and New Plymouth until Taranaki moved to Chiefs

Nor will perth be solely reliant on WA lol theres a slew of Australian players who miss out who will have a 17th option
Yes that’s true but (outside of local juniors) your competing with Melbourne for a Queenslander who has 4 options first to stay in their home state or NSW who has 9 options to stay local in Sydney plus a couple of satellite towns.
NZ2 would also compete with other teams but would have a stronger pull over NZers wanting to remain in NZ

The reds were playing the force at the same time as I was watching the Tigers v Sharks yesterday at the pub. The Tigers contest was action packed but I thought I'd watch a bit of each for about a 10 minute period... spent most of that just watching the Tigers game as it was in play! And when the Union was finally going look unbearably slow in comparison and they just kept kicking until it went out, at which point obviously a massive stoppage and I went back to the Tigers game.
It was a no contest, Super Rugby is done. League has won the Pacific. As you start to see people jumping on the band wagon, today I hear a rumour that a couple of forwards from the Highlanders have put the managers out to talk to League clubs...and why wouldn't they?
Super rugby can't be saved, most of the clubs would be haemorrhaging money ,going broke and soon they start to really drag down their nation governing bodies. If they pull back to national competitions that don't cost a lot to run , they'll make money on their internationals.
Union in the Pacific is only good for internationals. The sooner they realise it , the more money they can save.

This is the Achilles' Heel for a Perth-based team.

The Melbourne Storm got around this problem because a) they had strong financial support from News Ltd b) were created on the remains of three clubs amidst further consolidation in 1999 and 2000 and c) the other clubs were too poor to invest much money on talent and were struggling to stay afloat.

A peospective Perth team will enter the NRL when every other club has resources to develop junior talent and scout the entire country and Pacific for new recruits. If Bellamy is still with the Storm then juniors will choose Melbourne over Perth.

Cowboys are a now a powerhouse off the field. Dolphins are a powerhouse in the making. It's going to be much more difficult for Perth in 2028 than it was for Melbourne in 1998.

That's a really good point. They will really struggle to get talent.
