And yet the Dolphins and Cowboys have more than 2/3rds of there roster who aren't locals.

It's almost like in professional sports, you recruit the best of the best, not just some doofus who wants to live next to his mum.

And is almost like those saying otherwise are ignorant dickheads

That's right 2 / 3rds... not 100%..
The Dolphins had a hard time signing players with the best coach of all time in close proximity to existing players or where they're from.

WA .. every single player they sign will be relocating very far to a place they've never been familiar with ..

Being aware of this challenge makes you an " ignorant dickhead "?
O k...

Well you are the biggest dickhead on the forum.

So yes.

Unlike the fat slob that you are, professional athletes have a desire to play at the top level, and don't need to breastfeed on there Mum's teet like you do as a 35 year old.

Yes that's true!
Any new club has to make it attractive to go there. The Dolphins struggled a bit but maybe they had little substance bar Bennett. Being a BRL club may have had players thinking they weren't gonna be a force.
Who knows what happened but Perths location won't put players off. A third world country or freezing climate of southern NZ might be likely though.
IMO

Christchurch is a desirable location. By the ocean and a short drive to the snow, it's gorgeous!
Perths nice but zero people will be near family or friends.
It's not a big drag but in a comp so close, it could be the 1 or 2 players you couldn't sign that holds you down the bottom half of the ladder realistically.

The reds were playing the force at the same time as I was watching the Tigers v Sharks yesterday at the pub. The Tigers contest was action packed but I thought I'd watch a bit of each for about a 10 minute period... spent most of that just watching the Tigers game as it was in play! And when the Union was finally going look unbearably slow in comparison and they just kept kicking until it went out, at which point obviously a massive stoppage and I went back to the Tigers game.
It was a no contest, Super Rugby is done. League has won the Pacific. As you start to see people jumping on the band wagon, today I hear a rumour that a couple of forwards from the Highlanders have put the managers out to talk to League clubs...and why wouldn't they?
Super rugby can't be saved, most of the clubs would be haemorrhaging money ,going broke and soon they start to really drag down their nation governing bodies. If they pull back to national competitions that don't cost a lot to run , they'll make money on their internationals.
Union in the Pacific is only good for internationals. The sooner they realise it , the more money they can save.
Lots of empty green seats from the YouTube “highlights“ I saw.

lots of empty seats at the blues v crusaders game also which is supposed to be NZ super rugby big clash and glamour game the equivalent of Man Utd v Liverpool or Barcelona v Real Madrid.

who’s the highlander forwards putting out feelers to NRL clubs?

Reds had almost three years to build a roster. The game wasn't fully professional back then and many of the Sydney clubs were in financial trouble. The annual grant in 1995 was only $200k and the salary cap was $1.8m. Reds raided a few players from struggling Sydney clubs, such as Panthers, Dragons, Knights and Magpies. Panthers signed with Super League. Knights have always struggled for money. Magpies and Dragons were dying clubs.

The Reds were in financial strife by 1996 and needed News Ltd to bail them out. Brad McKay went back to NSW after 1995 to play with the Steelers. The only reason they got Julian O'Neil was because his off-field indescretions led to the Broncos tearing up his contract.

Reds were never able to sign a star like Stuart, Daley, Langer, Walters, Fitler, G Alexander, Lyons, Dymock, J Smith or Toovey. M Geyer was a hot head and spent large chunks of his career suspended. McKay left Perth for Wollongong after one season.

Cowboys didn't really recruit anyone of note. Their main signing was a born and raised North Queenslander who was at the end of his career and a Welsh rugby union player who only played a few games. Rugby union was still an amateur game in those days. The club didn't even use all of its salary cap.

Reds built a competitive team in 1995, perth will again if it gets chance. I can see us raiding Superleague, poms love Perth, I should know. Need 2-3 year lead in, a good coach and a good club
culture like Storm have and we’ll be fine.
Storm's culture was aided and abetted by News Ltd.

John Ribot and Chris Jones were high figures within News Ltd's Super League. They were the main men at the Storm in late 1997 and 1998.

Without News Ltd's resources there's no way the Storm would have succeeded. You're living in a fantasy world if you think otherwise.

This is 100% correct, and the same could be said of the Cowboys and to some extent the Broncos.

Thankfully in 2024, the game is substantially more well of and funds teams with more money then there salary cap.

So this isn't an issue any more.

That was over 25 years ago, and I doubt news ltd would know a good culture if it bit them! Storm have always worked really hard to make players and family feel part of the family and settle in a new city. Perth needs to copy it.

you seem to be mixing up money to sign players, which all clubs now have, and making a club attractive to play for.
