C,mon, I`d hazard a guess that the Western Australian economy is probably larger than the NZ economy full stop. That`s before we even start on that rural backwater that is the South Island. There isn’t a single metric where a Perth team beats nz2

And it is the money that will make or break this deal and unfortunately we have seen nothing from the South Island that contradicts that.
Crazy stuff, NZ economy ~ $400 billion, W.A. economy $260 billion in export income alone.2024-25 Western Australia State Budget | Economic and fiscal outlook
The 2024-25 Budget highlights Western Australia’s sustained economic strength, with 4.7% domestic growth in 2023, more than twice the growth of the national economy.www.ourstatebudget.wa.gov.au

At the moment it’s $21.77m (exchange rate fluctuates between that 10c over the dollar usually.Hey siri what does 20 million Australian translate into kiwi dollars
Where are you getting your petrol in Oz, that seems much cheaper than in my area.At the moment it’s $21.77m (exchange rate fluctuates between that 10c over the dollar usually.
I used to think “yay 10% off” when I went back but it’s not that simple when it comes to buying power,
Eg 91 petrol
AU$1.85L
NZ$ 2.47L (2.27 AU)
There’s also tax rates to consider which I think NZ may leave u better off as an NRL player as I remember Cam George trying to use it as a selling point
2L Milk (home brand)
AU$3
NZ$3.93 (3.60 au)
Dozen Eggs (cheapest)
AU$5.40
NZ$8 (7.35 AU)
Royal Gala Apple
AU$0.62 ea
NZ$1.20 ea (1.10 AU)
it’s not black and white as there are some things cheaper and some things more expensive. But as a rule NZ gets ripped off badly for every day stuff. A trip to the supermarket is an eye opener
Housing is cheaper (barely) but the quality and stock is generally a lot older, I looked at buying in Napier/Hastings a couple of years back as an investment property and what I could get there (2 bedroom 1970s built(Napier) vs 2 bedroom 2000s built(Hills)) it was comparable in price to a unit in the hills district sydney - I was shocked
I’m out Norwest, did notice the pump prices tend to go up the further East you got, play footy inner west and I’ll if I know I’m gonna need petrol I’ll fill before I leave.Where are you getting your petrol in Oz, that seems much cheaper than in my area.
Also, where are you getting your expensive double the price apples in NZ?
Housing is nuts in the Bay these days, I too looked at getting a place for a rental, and even Flaxmere was hitting $400k for a 3 bedroom.
It's weird, up until 2010 groceries were cheaper in NZ, John Campbell did a comparison in his 7:30 show. Since then it's been all one way. Although I have noticed that restaurant food is evening out, NZ always seemed more expensive on trips home but the inflation has closed that gap.
I couldn't believe the price of groceries in New world when I first got to NZ but eventually found relief at Pak n save .I’m out Norwest, did notice the pump prices tend to go up the further East you got, play footy inner west and I’ll if I know I’m gonna need petrol I’ll fill before I leave.
Grocery prices I used were Woollies as it’s the same team for both countries, Pak n Save might be a little cheaper likewise New World would likely be higher etc. When I moved here 2013 I found it cheaper overall apart from the odd exceptions but also you kinda had essentially the one option with Cole’s/woollies being pretty much on par and the odd IGA if you wanted to shop local vs NZs Pak n Save - Countdown - New World scale of price/ “quality”
Aus has definitely spiked with food prices of late found even like a takeaway is not the cheap feed it once was
