3-5% fair enough. KAYO just went up 20% and we havent hit the big AFL pay date yet!

Here in lies a problem. EPL for example in UK costs fans $120 a month to stream. Just so clubs can get richer and players get paid more and more. I get that its a commodity but still at what point does sport stop being about community and become little more than just another sales product?

This figure is for coverage that's much worse then the NRL, as in the vast majority of matches aren't even shown live.

Kayo is a bargain in comparison

Then you have the other sports, If Disney plus went up then ESPN will at some stage.
BEIN stand alone price is nuts

Both are included with Kayo

Disney plus went up more of a %

was $11.99 now is $13.99

With an ad Supported version too.

Disney have far more capital than Fox Sports too

Hopefully stan or paramount bid against foxtel

the ratings are massive so you would expect so

then we get what we are worth

fox won’t lose the rugby league
There was a recent article where it stated that Nine/Stan could bid for all of it, just like Ten/Paramount did with the AFL.

Now hypothetically, it could become a straight shootout with Ten/Paramount v Nine/Stan for all of the NRL rights, and Fox miissing out altogether. Fox needs a FTA partner.

Kayo Freebies gets around that but ch9 will jump on board

You`d have to think that could be a very real scenario, the question is though, does the NRL have the intestinal fortitude to snub Foxtel. It`d be a big threat though.

Highly unlikely given they still surreptitiously run the game! Look at how Smith got hounded out when he tried to shirt front them.
If we had a genuinely independent leadership then yes gloves would be off and Id expect, barring major landscape change to streaming providers, 9/Stan v 10/Paramount would be the fight.
Fox may well try and partner with Ch7 though to bid? By 2028 most FTA will be digital and streaming anyway so no reason a FTA channel couldn't hold both major sports.

I don't think the NRL would be snubbing Fox in that scenario. If Nine/Stan and Ten/Paramount want to go at it alone, then there's not the much the NRL can do about it, other than looking at the offers and the service/packages they provide.

If the NRL try and convince Nine and Fox to stay together, then it may put off Ten/ Paramount, and therefore the price of the bidding may go down as a consequence.

The NRL's job is to have a tender process and see what's on offer in the marketplace and take it from there. Whether it's Nine/Fox, Nine/Stan, Ten/Fox, Ten/Paramount or Seven/Fox.

It’ll be fox and nine for around 525 to 550 million pa

can’t see as getting more than that

salary cap would then be around 15 million pa and the top players will be on almost 2 to 2.5 million pa

they will be going to market with an extra ten million viewers via the dolphins and nrlw and then further growth via team 18

The only way I see C9 bidding for sole rights, is if they onsell it to Foxtel, like they did last time.

If that's a big number for the NRL, then I'm all for it, but why should C9 profit out if this? For mine the NRL should put in a % "sell on" clause

Haha, exactly the reason you wouldnt renogtiate, let alone extend by 5 years, a tv deal!! There was no no need to sign off on anything other than the year ahead. If he hadn’t done his news ltd mates a favour we would have ended up with possible competitive bidding and a shit load more than the $402mill we ended up with.
Perhaps it helps to keep abreast of what is happening since re financials.
Judging by what is around the corner ,by many pundits a world wide recession. The NRL have a commitment in place. Free to air TV is going down the tube ratings wise here and in the States. Sweating on the she'll be right approach and not have security in place , when you have players financials including women's rls leaving yourself open to being screwed big time.
Keep crapping on about "his mates" .Translation The biggest finances originate from Fox whether you or me like it or not. That is the reality.
Akin to a vendor desperately trying to sell a house and holding off selling expecting a better price in a fast falling market.Good luck.
You used the description "possible" competitive is hardly reassuring. Particularly as 10 not prepared to spend the loot, ch7 still an AFL boot licker and would only cherry picked 9 hardly overly flush..

The fact the game is expanding 2 years after the complete Competition shutdown is a great thing, Locking in the future helped that

The game needs to be easily assessable, Foxtel provides that atm and very likely will be the only option still in 5 years
