Just off the topic a little bit I dunno if Gould has mentioned it but they mentioned the success of the Toyota Cup.

Yes it been successful, however what happens to those players who are over 20. They would probably end up at in the NSW cup or better off taking the offer in England or France.

I keep saying it but Im very surprised not one media personality has ever questioned the lower grade competition, especially Gould. Thats the problem there's too much focus on the younger generation and the other players are being linked to ESL or Union which will continue to increase.

Somebody please ask David Gallop.

Gould will never be critical of it, because he suggested the idea himself a few years ago. However, his idea was that players wouldn't be allowed to play at NRL level until they were 22 or 23.

the ESL doesn't allowed players to be recruited from overseas unless they've played a certain number of first grade games. So anyone in the U20s or or NSW cup who've not played first grade football, is not going to meet the the criteria.

Didn't they have an article somewhere saying the Footy Show was getting stale with no footy talk and the footy talk they do contain, it was all of the same opinion. On comes a bloke in Gould who will speak his mind and they don't let him on because Gallop is afraid of answering some hard questions. The state of rugby league is exactly like the Footy Show itself, struggling and stale.

send Phil an email here - http://www.leaguehq.com.au/experts/phil-gould/

its a f**king disgrace - he may be a cok, and is over the top, but at least someone has the balls to cut through the 'lawyer' monotone crap and seek a real answer.

this smacks of noos limited and their control over the game - 'speak out and we will make you disappear'.

like him or hate him - he truly cares about the game and is sick of the pathetic pansying of the administration and their kowtowing to news ltd - just like every other real league fan.

every post I've read here is sick of the current administration of the nrl - its time for a change and if SBW has caused that change then what a great time it is for league in Aus!

Ribot and Johns are right - cut the comp to 12, open up more sponsorship and earning capacity, and make it a truly national comp.

You were doing well until the last line.

The simple thing is we need a plan to GROW the game, which was one of Gould's main points.

ya can't grow if you have half a dozen teams leeching from the tit.
when you get more people to a netball game than two separate nrl games on the same weekend, you know you're fans don't give a rats arse anymore.

too many teams in Sydney - pretty simple. but who's gonna take one for the team is the problem?

16 or 18 teams - including Perth & Adelaide.

Sell the TV rights for what they are worth and not for a bargain discount price to a company that is 50% owned by the 50% owners of the negotiating party.

Sell the major sponsorship for what it is worth and not for a bargain discount price to a company that is not closely aligned with the 50% owners of the negotiating party.

News Ltd to stop stealing $8 mil a year from the game for them to get the money back that they "invested" into the game during Super League - you're f**king scum, you should not get money back from your failed takeover.

And finally - New Ltd to f**k off completely. Who gives a sh*t if they own teams, but f**k off from the game itself.

Sorry slight error there - I can't edit posts

That is closely aligned that should be.

Welcome to the real world people.

Some of us have had to sign gagging orders at the Sydney District Court in order to ensure we retain our pensions when under the pump.

Some of us have had to keep our mouths shut about very very serious issues that involve people possibly serving life time gaol sentances because we have had to bite our tongues.

Gould should have kept his trap shut. I think The Ch9 boss has done the right thing to gag him for the virtue of Channel 9, but maybe not for the virtue of truth and for what the general public should (and probably want to) hear.

you would need the ability to expand later once the game got a foothold in SA & WA and maybe the Pacific Islands. 12 - 14 teams allows you to do that.
if SA & WA actually ever give a $hit about league, each state could support 2 teams. Plus another either in NZ, or a combined Pacific Islanders team perhaps?
how good would a polynesian team be? plus a great opportunity for the raw islander talent to showcase new skills and develop the game further

More people went to the netball than a full round of club union, or state cricket. So what? Play Sydney league games during the day, black out local TV on pay, play at the appropriate stadium. Build the audience/passion again and then start to move the bigger games once the demand and feel good factor is back.
