NRL bans Gallen from Dally M awards

The NRL has banned Paul Gallen and all other players suspended following the ASADA doping investigations from the Dally M awards.

All players have been ruled ineligible to win any honours.

Gallen was in line to claim the representative player of the year as well as the Brad Fitler Medal.

Fitler had recently said that Gallen should not receive the award after the ban was announced.

“In my opinion, given the circumstances that he is suspended, he should be ineligible to win the medal,” he said.
The Dally M rule states:

The Dally M rules state: “The game acknowledges that a player found guilty of a doping offence may be stripped of any award or be ruled ineligible to receive any award subject to the determination of the NRL.”

Technically they've been banned all season and have no business winning any awards.

I'm surprised this is such a talking point. As the previous poster said, technically they were banned all season so this is a pretty straight-forward ruling. It would be completely Michael Mouse for ASADA to ban them and the NRL to say 'be that as it may, Gallen is our Rep player of the Year'.

It's not petty nor is it cheap. Why can't a guy speak his mind? He's not having a crack at Gallen, he's merely saying it's not right that a guy from a team that's banned wins his award.

And he's right. Good on him for having the strength to say it, unlike a load of his media mates who wouldn't dare say anything nearing the negative.

No cheap shots,Gallen took the plea,therefore admitting taking illegal drugs,his suspension was back dated 1 year making him ineligable to win any award,if Gallen did nothing wrong,he should have had the nuts to fight it and clear his name.
