Why is everyone shutting down any criticism of the Tv deal, great ratings but Pete stuffed up the last deal. He has done some good things but that wasn’t one of them, can’t wait for team 18 and the next deal, should be 600m+ even if we go to 10/paramount. We need to close the gap with AFL because they will keep spending the excess money in our markets

Hard to praise or bag a deal no one knows what it is?

Secondly and most importantly extending when the game did allows a 9th game next time around, And puts the game closer to having a Full season of NRLW which is vital to getting more content

That’s all well and good but some here live in a state of perpetual misery and this is their outlet for expressing it. As for the tv deal. Yeah as it turns out it could have been better. To quote the soup nazi ‘NEXT!’

Yes Paramount would of bid but they also placed huge bids for cricket and AFL, Both sports took less to keep the status quo. The reason they did are valid

Stan possibly but it is currently over priced as a sport service, Upping that to $30 or so a month just for the one sport. Likely would lose some fans.

Which when you throw in the lack of access at Pubs and clubs would potentially take the sport backwards, If the $550m or whatever Stan would of paid doesn't bring value then the next deal drops.

All of that ignoring that Ch9 would have every game and their horrible coverage.

So yes potentially there was more money out there, Were the deals better for the future of the game? Where the sport sits in 5 years time will judge that

Waiting ayear and going to open market would have fast tracked the growth enormously, extending at a time of weakness will hold the game back at least 5 yeras.

You are joking .
when players are tiring it becomes a war of attrition .
having a break after 20 mins in each half is stupid .
It takes the fatigue factor out of the game .
I can’t believe you needed someone to explain that .
Yeah, yeah.
If quarter time breaks were "stupid", what is the NRL more intelligent somehow than AFL, American football and basketball?
Playing in quarters is brilliant - the only argument against it is this fatigue myth.
f**kers, understand this FFS. Fatigue is essentially a thing of the past in the NRL and has been for decades.
It isn't a thing worth holding good ideas back over.

The extension was announced roughly 12 months from the last deal running out, You aren't going to go into the last season without something locked in.

So say the NRL extends the deal for another season or 2. We wouldn't be seeing the Dolphins right now or the NRLW expansion this season.

So that is pushed back to say 2025. To start when the new TV deal starts. You aren't going to get team 18 during that deal. So you are looking at 2031 roughly before you have the 9th game.

Remembering the new deal is between $410-$450m a season. Lets say it is $430m for this exercise.

5 x $430m is $2.150b

The next deal starting in 2028 adds atleast $100m to that. I think as high as $550m.

2028 $550m
2029 $550m

= $3.25b total

As opposed too

remaining on
$380m

2023
2024

$500m

2025
2026
2027
2028
2029

= $3.2b

So you get to almost the same point with More teams.

Why is everyone shutting it down?
Because some posters have been bitching about it already for eternity! Is 1 reason, another is the comparison to AFL is horse shit because the AFL are providing around 30% more content being a longer game..with more games. A third reason in the negotiations took place around covid and unless you think PVL job was to be a virologist/ nostradamas?? He did a deal to ensure we had a future.
That future has been proven to be incredibly bright!

So please f**k off with the old news of the last deal.
He's set thing in an incredible place for the next one!

So next topic !
V'landys didn't have to worry about running out of arse wipe during the lock down. He could always count on you and @Wb1234 to lick his arse clean whenever he took a shit.
