NRL Rd 12 2025 - General Non-Warriors Thread

This year's first Origin-affected round, it certainly changes things, doesn't it? Mitch Barnett is a key player for the Warriors and his absence could be the difference between winning and losing this week. Most clubs have similar situations. But Origin is Origin, it's here, it's not going anywhere, and, from a club-perspective, we deal with it.

Tonight, it's wet in Sydney, it's been raining for weeks. If a big crowd turns out tonight to support the Dogs against Dolphins then that'll show how well Canterbury are going.

Friday, it's a classic minus a few stars. Eels v Sea Eagles always looks good. If the weather stays rubbish I doubt many Manly fans will venture over there (they never do, anyway). Parra will see its most loyal followers. Night time footy in full winter is always a challenge.

Saturday, Penrith should roll the Knights. No Cleary, no Ponga, the Origin losses are sort of evened out, which means the Panthers look the better side anyway. If you look at the table a few wins and the Panthers are back in the mix. Incredible, really.

Easts v Cronulla. Name the Kiwis legend who played for both? Back to the future and Easts are getting desperate. Such a big-shot club, they expect much better. Cronulla had a character-building win last week, they were tough enough to hold on. Good signs in the Shire.

We close with Mt Smart action. Warriors v Raiders. It's hard seeing the home team getting 'home' without its two pack leaders in Barnett and Fisher-Harris. Canberra have both the forwards and the backs to put on a score. I'm nervous. But, that Warriors home crowd might bring our guys 'home'!

Enjoy.

Warriors-Canberra the game of the round - hard to pick, but missing both Barnett and JFH is huge - but one game for others to step up isn't impossible at all.

Penrith should beat Newcastle, but they are missing their 5 best players - that's a shitload to cope with - they're not the team they were, but given the way the season's gone they're not out of it

I just can't wait for the games to start. The weather's atrocious and I had a hernia operation on Tuesday. Recovery is painful, but it's more manageable pain today than yesterday.

Who else has had a bastard hernia? I have empathy for a lot of leaguis now, surgery can be frightening and recovery is painful.

Funnily enough my first through was Barnett but had a feeling you’d be going Sorensen.
Yeah, I'm the right age. I would've first seen him in his Sharks gear in the Air New Zealand (or Autex) Rugby League Annual, circa '77-80. I was a kid and he looked awesome playing in Sydney.

I would've died for a league jersey back then, and I actually never got one. My brother got a Parra jersey from Paddy's Market in Sydney, when mum and dad were over for the GF in '83. Dad was a Manly guy but he said he couldn't find a Manly one! Silvertails had the money to buy them out!

I had Sorenson in my mind, which is weird given Barnett is my era

Nup, had a snip a bit lower down last holidays and I wouldn't recommend it.

Torn on who wins tonight, gut feeling says Dolphins, but they’ve burned me already this year, and I looked at the Dogs lineup and there is still enough there, so I tipped them

Pouring down but competitive game of footy and some skilful play considering the conditions. Obviously lots of mistakes as well.

Dogs doing it the hard way again trailing at half time.
Can the Dolphins hang in there in the 2nd half or will the Dogs mow them down like they did last couple of weeks

14-8, Dolphins. Second-half. At eight-all it was crucial the underdog Dolphins scored next.

They're brave fans out there tonight.
...20-8 now, 49 mins. It's a bit of a boil over if Redcliffe win.
...26-8! 66 mins...great tipping for all those brave enough.
...32-8, it's a wipeout in the wet! Geez, have the Dogs become distracted with Galvin shenanigans?!

...44-8, Dolphins. Final. I love this season. Another minute or two and they'd have put the Grim Reaper 50 on them.
