When you get hammered by 30 points in Origin...it's time for wholesale changes.
Just my opinion as a long time NSW fan..don't take it personally:
1. Anthony Minichiello
2. Jarryd Hayne
3. Mark Gasnier (c)
4. Michael Jennings
5. Joel Monaghan
6. Todd Carney
7. Peter Wallace
8. Brent Kite
9. Robbie Farrah
10. Luke Bailey
11. Anthony Laffranchi
12. Willie Mason
13. Luke Lewis
14. Braith Anasta
15. Ben Cross
16. Mark Minichiello
17. Ryan Hoffman
Ok justifying my selections:
Minichiello is basically the man when he's fit. If he's still playing in 3 weeks then he's in IMO. He's made for Origin.
Michael Jennings is a very talented player with more attacking spark than Matt Cooper. I think he'll be able to handle Brent Tate just fine.
Joel Monaghan is the only man that could possibly challenge Israel in the air. Therefore, his selection is a must. If Hayne's still out, put Quinn over the other side marking Boyd.
Todd Carney (yeah im biased but f*ck it) has been playing halfback but he's just a natural at 5/8. He's got the best running game for a NSW 5/8. Anasta on the bench to provide cover for the halves and slip into lock during the game.
Brent Kite's an international. Brett White aint. Simple selection IMO.
Danny Buderus has had a hell of a run since 2002. He's become the blues Gary Larson. But his time is up. Robbie Farrah will provide the spark from dummy half and a lot more variation. It's time for Benny Elias mark II to enter the origin arena.
Luke Bailey's been in the best form of his life, and he's never let NSW down so you got to bring him back. He has the experience required. Fitzy just aint a prop.
I've swapped Laffranchi & Hoffman around. I think Laffranchi can start off with the tough stuff, and Hoffman can come on and wreak havoc out wide as the game wears on.
Willie Mason was borderline, but he has the size and he just needs to fire the f*ck up.
Luke Lewis provides great variation from lock forward with his running game. And will have a lot more impact than Gallen or Bird IMO. Those guys were ineffective tonight. When the goin gets tough...those boys disappear. You can't have too many meatheads in the side.
On the bench i've gone with a couple of real tough guys to put some mongrel in the side. Ben Cross & Mark Minichiello. These guys are tough without compromising the pentalty count. Unlike Gallen and Bird. Braith Anasta adds perfect variation to the bench. He covers the halves & the backrow. If there's an injury in the halves he can move straight to 5/8 with Carney into halfback if need be. He'll come on at lock and Mr. utility Luke Lewis will move to wherever he's needed. Wether that's second row, the 3/4 line or dummy half.
