Who would you list as our best utilities?

I'm guessing Yeo.

Yeo isn't a utility. He's a middle forward who can play edge and has played centre but it would have to be be an absolute emergency to use him there. There aren't many genuine utilities in this era of specialisation. The pick of them, ie the player who can cover the most positions adequately (backrower, hooker, centre, half, five eighth) plays for my club but I don't suppose he's in the reckoning given his sins. Maybe next year.

Considering some of the nuffies we have carried on the bench in the past ie Peachey et al, Paps is a significant upgrade.

I don't think you understand the role of a utility. Being a scintillating fullback is only of any use if the existing fullback goes down. There are half a dozen fullbacks in great form, but they're not being put forward for Origin because you've got Turbo or Wighton who can slot in. The 14 has to be able to play many positions with minimal disruption to the rest of the team. What would you do with Pap as the 14 if the hooker went down in the 2nd minute? This is why Peachey was selected, because he could cover lots of positions, not because of his scintillating form. As it turned out no-one got injured so the coach had trouble getting him into the games. He can still cover positions but his form has dropped at the Titans so he's no longer on the radar. The minute you abandon your utility position is when you'll need it most.

Paps could cover most positions more capably than Peachey in my opinion. I think you are underestimating his ability.

Maybe not ideal but as you say, not a lot of options in that position. But I do agree with you re Tyrone May's ability.

Played 5/8 and fullback adequately at Penrith too and possibly dummy half. But as I said, he's well out of the reckoning, flat out making the Titans team.

After the final round of the regular season, the Maroons are set to go into their Origin bubble possibly as early as October 19 until the conclusion of the Origin series on November 18.

A fair few NSW incumbents not in good form playing for clubs that finish up next week. Freddie might do well to remember that the Tedesco try at the end was all that stood between NSW and series defeat last year.

You might pick Tom Turbo on reputation, but there's far too many players in Johns' side who haven't earnt the right to play for NSW.

Cotric and Papenhuyzen are line balling for me for the wing spot. If Tom T isn't fit, one possibility is Cotric to centre and Papenhuyzen on the wing. The other is Brad Parker at centre.

Similarly in the pack. Finucane, Crichton, Frizell, RCG, Vaughan, and Tamou all have Origin experience and would slot easily into the team. Swap any 3 with the 3 I've named on the bench and we lose nothing. I never thought I'd be arguing for Friz and Vaughan to be dropped, but both have given me the shits this year, which is why they're not in the 17.

I do think Korisau on the bench is key. Cook is an 80 minute player and will tackle himself dead if you ask him to, but when you have an alternative as good as Korisau, you'd be a mug not to take advantage. Play Cook for the first 25 and last 25 minutes, and play Korisau for half an hour either side of half time. Depending on the game situation, you could maybe even leave Korisau on and play one of them as a roving forward.

I would love to see paps in the starting team he has really excelled this year and I'm keen to see how he goes as skipper tomorrow

he likely could easily play wing but im not sure if he has actually played much there before - he is also a handy utility player if needed though

I think due to this years unique circumstances we will see an extended training squad named, and then the team named based on the longer training camp, with current form and how well certain players gel together having a big influence
