That is a great result for Central Coast SG Ball after last weeks loss to the Bulldogs.

The Raiders were actually ahead 18-0 after 25 mins in this game. By half time their lead was only 18-16.

I think the Dogs are actually higher on the table than this....Anyway some interesting results yesterday.

Probably in third spot.

SKIPPER FRASER STARS AS PARRAMATTA MACHINE ROLLS ON

The Parramatta SG Ball team continues to roll opposition teams and yesterday at Erskinville Oval it wasn’t any different as the Eels demolished a shell-shocked South Sydney Rabbitohs 50 - 6.

The big question people are asking is; who can beat this machine? The team, which some pundits have valued at a quarter of a million dollars with eight imports from New Zealand, Queensland and NSW country, have not been threatened in the four rounds of competition so far.

They haven’t beaten mug sides either. Illawarra, Penrith, Canberra and Souths are quality opposition in anyone’s language. And those games were all won away.
They now have five home games in a row and Parramatta fans are feeling confident.

Looking at the other teams it may be a Gold Coast or Bulldogs or even the Jets that could lower the Eels flag.
Anyway, back to yesterday. You have to wonder what the score could have been because Parramatta lost big Queensland second rower Pat O’Hanlon to injury in the first half.

Additionally half back Josh Murray did not play at all and the Wagga product will be out of action for a couple of weeks with a torn gluteus maximus muscle.

No problem, step forward another Wagga product in the shape of Edan Price. Price played pretty well particularly in the first half with a great linking game but he let himself down with some wild passes in the second half. With an emphasis on Wagga half back imports is Parramatta looking for another Peter Sterling?

The Eels win was based on forward domination and go-forward by their big dominant forwards. In this respect skipper Kyle Fraser deserves special mention.

He is a product of the Parramatta junior system. He didn’t make Parramatta’s Harold Matthews team in 2007 and they sent him to the Western Academy. Last year he missed the SG Ball initial squad and they sent him to the under 17 development team but later elevated him to the SG Ball team after injuries had diminished their stock.

Now he finds himself captain of the rampaging machine that is heading the SG Ball competition.

He is a great example to kids who don’t get picked the first time.

Fraser along with props Peni Terepo, Rodney Moefaauo and PJ Asiata continued to punch holes in the Rabbitohs defence.

It was left to the speed and agility of backs Josh Tuitupou and Jaydin Tavita, et al, to score a plethora of trys and record another big win.

Souths will be disappointed with their effort which was punctuated with many simple errors.

DUNGAY INSPIRES SOUTHS TO THRILLING DRAW

Story & Photo's by : pk /
oft_s9a.jpg

Souths five eight Kyole Dungay inspired South Sydney to a thrilling draw against the much fancied Parramatta team in the Harold Matthews Cup at Erskinville Oval yesterday.

The Rabbitohs were down 18 - 6 early in the second half after Parramatta scored from a typical Jacob Gagen sprint to the line to score.

At that stage the Eels were on fire with steam streaming from their slippery nostrils. It looked like Parramatta was going to go on to a big score.

So what happened? Three things conspired to beat Parramatta. Firstly, an Eels player was sent to the sin bin for an infringement.

Secondly, Jacob Gagen dropped the football. Parramatta supporters at the game said they hadn’t seen Gagen drop the ball since he was 10 years of age. People may have to wait for another 5 years to see it again!

Thirdly and most importantly, Parramatta did not count on the silky football skills of crafty South’s five eight Kyole Dungay to inspire his team to an 18 all draw.

Twice in the second half Dungay magic was woven to produce spectacular trys.

Centre Tyrone Ranuku-Phillips scored in the corner after a magic Dungay grubber kick. With the conversion from the sideline Souths are now only behind 18-12 with a sniff of hope.

A little while later Gagen drops the ball and it’s a Souths feed into the scrum. The Rabbitohs are on fire and attacking the Parramatta line. Step forward Mr Magic.

Yes, it’s that man Dungay again and with a pinpoint cut-out pass straight onto the chest of the flying winger Conor Roxburgh who scores in the corner.

Souths fans are almost delirious at this stage with the score now 18-16 with the conversion attempt to come and only two and a half minutes to the full-time hooter.

The pressure now mounts on fullback James Roberts to make the conversion. Roberts was under the pump.
His portrait was featured on the front cover of the Rugby League News program resulting in many local admirers of the fairer sex giving him plenty of attention yesterday.

Could he live up to the hype?

He places the ball on the kicking tee, takes five steps back, moves in and whooshka! Straight between the posts! James Roberts – you are a hero!

An 18 all draw between two of leagues traditional rivals on a beautiful Sydney Autumn day. It doesn’t get better than that.

SOUTH SYDNEY 18 (T Ranuku-Phillips C Roxburgh A Woulf tries J Roberts 3 goals) drew PARRAMATTA 18 (T Errington 2 J Gagan V Toutai tries T Graham goal).

South Sydney SG Ball were fairly "ordinary" in their win against Wests last week. In fact Wests could have beaten them easily if they'd played a little smarter.

I would have thought Parramatta would have won by more.

How true. A lot of these players thought they were the bomb last year when they were brought up from the development to play sg ball & I think it was this round they were bought up. They were ordinary last year & appears nothing has changed. I wonder if Wests will make the changes again this year.

Wests SG Ball are an embarrassment. How Cameron Blair was ever given the coaching position is beyond me.

Wests had a chance to employ the current undefeated St. George SG Ball coach Nal Wijesekera this year but the great Harvey Howard went for Cameron Blair. Great choice Harvey

The modern game is a different game and the people of Campbelltown deserve a much better standard of coaches for both their junior rep teams.

Just because you played football in another life doesn't mean you have the skill to be a modern day coach.

DISTRICT REPS COACH REPORTS - ROUND FOUR
1.37pm, Tuesday 10 March 2009

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels remain undefeated in District Representative competition following their weekend clashes against South Sydney.

A second draw of the season in Harold Matthews Cup was followed by another thumping victory in the SG Ball.
Read on below to see what the respective coaches thought of their matches.

Harold Matthews Cup
Eels 18, Rabbitohs 18

Saturday’s Harold Matthews Cup clash between the Eels and South Sydney at Erskineville Oval saw both sides start strongly. Play moved from one end to the other on the back of high completion rates, with first points coming in the 13th minute when Josh Neale offloaded to Junior Paulo who found Troy Errington in support to open the scoring for the Eels.
Parra continued to complete their sets as the half wore on, which resulted in good field position and in turn more points, with Errington eventually getting his second try of the game.
Both tries were unconverted, and with Souths awarded a series of kickable penalties the Eels headed to the sheds ahead by eight points to six.
The second half started where the first ended with play going from end to end. Some good play from our boys saw big centre Vai Toutai crash over to take the Eels lead to 12-6, while from the kick off a series of quick play the balls allowed Jacob Gagan to get out from dummy half and run 50 metres to score the Eels fourth try.
Up by 12 points, an untimely sinbin allowed Souths back in the game and the Eels had no possession for the last 10 minutes of the half. More poor discipline resulted in too many penalties and eventually laid the platform for a Rabbitohs fight back, the match finishing in an 18-all draw.

Chris Bradbury
Harold Matthews Cup Coach

SG Ball Cup
Eels 50, Rabbitohs 6

A personal haul of 20 points from fullback Jaydin Tavita was the highlight in Parramatta’s 50-6 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Erskineville Oval.
Tavita scored two tries and kicked six goals to dominate the game.

Half Edan Price was first to get the Eels on the board when a Jason Wehbe cross field kick was fumbled, Price pouncing for the four pointer while Tavita added the extras from the sideline. Tavita then combined with Price to score his first, and shortly after he got his second when Pat O’Hanlon offloaded in heavy traffic to put the flying fullback over in the corner.

Ahead 16-nil Krys Freeman then caught the blindside defence napping when he timed a nice pass to Josh Tuitupou who scored his first try, Tavita extended with the conversion.

Souths then had a weight of possession deep in the Eels half, but solid defence frustrated the Bunnies. A grubber kick from Souths half Darryl Brennan to gain a repeat set found Freeman, who scooped it up and set sail on a 70 metre run to the Bunnies try line. The chasers eventually ran him down, but not before he positioned his support in the shape of a flying Chris Ulugia who finished off the first half placing the ball down under the posts.

Tavita then added the two and the Eels were in control at 28-0.
Tuitupou got his second just after the break, before Souths dug in and bagged a try by Luke Akau’ola. The kick was successful, the Eels ahead 32-6.
That triggered the Eels, who scored three more converted tries through Peni Terepo, Olomanu Usini and Jason Wehbe, while Tavita added the extras for a final scoreline of 50 points to 6.

Roosters 22 Illawarra 12 in H/Matts @ WIN Stadium (HT 6-6)

Hope the ref Joanne Spagorino for SG Ball game is OK - she was knocked out after only about 3 minutes - I believe she collided with the posts and had to be stretchered off. I only stayed for first 15 minuites so don't know if she came back on.

manly beat norths in matts

and bears beat manly in ball 26 to 10

Saw both games. Manly Matts were very impressive think they only dropped the ball once in the match to win 40-12. Looked very good in attack especially.

Ball on the other hand dropped their share and the Matts team share. They struggled for direction without skipper Jason Annear who broke his arm early last game in the loss to Melbourne.
