Nice to see Pete back, and also Will Smith getting a run (still can't get that 'walk like an egyptian' pic out of my mind roopy :p damn you!) Is that his first run in NYC? I'm guessing Ball is over now.

Smith was on the bench last week.
To give Smith his due, he played a couple of great games this year in Ball that i saw, but the guy is a serious ball hog. A young James Wynne - throw a dummy and go himself is always his idea of what to do for a clutch play.

Yeah mate doesn't make a rats arse of difference to me...maybe it can get a little mixed up in the 'imports vs locals' thing, but no doubt in years to come we will (and already are) having lots of locals pouring through to the side.
Thats the nature of the Toyota cup, Islanders just mature earlier and have a physical advantage when it comes to age group football. Watch any NYC game and its like atleast 50% Islanders

This is my point exactly.

It seems so shortsighted to be picking so many Islanders because they've developed early when in reality they don't have as much improvement left in them. So many huge guys with a physical advantage at 18 can't make the step up when people actually become their size. And the emphasis of size over skill and determination is concerning.

Larry Taufua springs to mind, and we all know how he turned out.

Funny halves this week.
Davis and Sullivan playing NSW cup and Roberts and Smith in NYC.

Two years ago Smith and Sullivan were our Mathews halves, and Sullivan was better in every aspect of play, not to mention he is 20kg bigger and has been training with the NYC squad.

I like the idea of Roberts going to 7, just to have a look at how he goes, because all those guys are natural 6s, and we don't have a natural 7, except maybe Aloi, who is on the bench and will probably be the second hooker.

Maybe we can ask Shay Padburg to ignore that we didn't want him for Ball after the trials, and see how he goes in NYC. At least he is a genuine number 7.

Chanel Mata'utia is in for Fairweather on the wing outside Pete.
I imagine Pete will lift to look after his big little brother.

I reckon that the answer to our halfback woes (in the lower grades, not firsts... yet) is sitting right there in the number 17. Alai Taufaao. Dynamic running game, good long kicking game, smart attacking options, and is as keen as anyone to pull on a boot.

Good news for Chanel too... I honestly thought we'd see Pat before we saw Chanel. As younger fellas Chanel looked like one of those kids that would improve with age, whereas Pat just looked an absolute star.
