Organised crime and drugs in sport investigation

Well said.

Different sports have different physical attributes required to succeed so doping programs are not going to be consistent. Sports that require a steady hand for example like Archery and Shooting prohibit beta blockers which lower the heart rate thus calming the participant, whereas athletes in other sports take No Doze and Red Bull to raise their heart rates before performing.

EPO would have no benefit for AFL or Soccer players. Neither game is aerobic enough (repeated bouts of sprints with consistent breaks). Doping cyclists only use EPO in events longer than 3days, and wouldn't use it during hill sprints.

EPO doesn't instantly give you greater performance, it stops your performance declining (ie reduced hct) with heavy bouts of exercise over a few days.

righto cheers

i was just using that as an example as you need to endure.

what drugs would benifit soccer players in your opinion?

North Queensland Cowboys claim they've been cleared by ASADA

Peter Badel and Ben Dorries

NORTH Queensland CEO Peter Jourdain says the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority has informed him that the team has no case to answer in the Australian Crime Commission doping probe.
Jourdain said ASADA told the club they will not be party to a sweeping investigation involving up to 150 NRL and AFL identities.

He said today the Cowboys will no longer feature in the on-going government investigation that could see as many as 80 athletes charged with doping violations.

The other NRL clubs mentioned in the ACC report were Cronulla, Penrith, Canberra, Newcastle and Manly.

"We're done and dusted," Jourdain told News Limited.

"I have spoken to ASADA and they have assured me verbally that that's all they require from us. We are not in the 150 people they are talking about being interviewed.

"I don't know why we were involved in the first place. The ACC surely would have referred anything of concern to the Queensland police and they have received nothing.

"We haven't had an off-field player incident for two years so to be brought into this is wrong.

"It's pretty unfair to be dragged into this."

Cowboys coach Neil Henry yesterday slammed rugby league's handling of the drugs investigation and says the NRL should be embarrassed.

''The way the whole thing has been handled is a disgrace,'' Henry said.

''To me I think it's embarrassing for the NRL to come out an mention there is six teams, and to be forced into a situation to defend ourselves against something we don't even know about.

''It's a slight on the integrity of the club - it is farcical. For people to have to defend themselves with not knowing any information, it is just wrong.

''It's a shame we have had to go into this defensive mode,'' Henry said today.

''It was just poorly handled from day one this whole sorry saga.

''Community image to us is everything - we are a community owned club - to have innuendo about the club is just poor.''

EPO increases red blood cell counts and would be an obvious doping choice for an endurance sport like AFL.

Expectations of 70-80 sportspeople banned from their particular code - not serious; ok how many would make it serious?

As a Pennies fan, you should be worried.

then why were they originally implicated

Because there were some players that had links to other clubs which I assume ASADA had some issues with.

I would also assume that after some further investigation they were happy with the information received.

Seems a pretty shitty thing to do to the Cowboys by the authorities however.

Gotta say the Cowboys admin have knocked this out of the park in terms of how they have dealt with the matter.

Gratz to cowboys fans, glad your club can move on. Best of luck to the clubs remaining "under suspicion".

Whose expectations? What code? Is it actual or potential?

Do you have inside knowledge or just press releases and an internet forum for your information?

Just as a final note on soccer

When doctor Fuentes got arrested and testified during operation Puerto he said he could name other athletes he helped dope and the judge was like no no just cyclists lets not discuss soccer. He outright said that if he told all Spains soccer program would face serious repercussions. Yet the authorities only wanted to talk cycling.

His wikipage outlines how dirty the process was and how likely it is the Spanish soccer team won a world cup on the back of doping.

Read the article posted from the mainstream press quoting an ASADA spokesperson, it was posted by El Donger last night.

Somehow, I would believe a journo who places his spokesperson words within quotation marks (libel laws); then some of the flat earthers on here who are screaming it is a beat up or a big conspiracy. They must be shitting themselves.

Are clubs jumping the gun coming out saying they are in the clear because Asada has said they have not had any positive tests? Seems the head of Asada in last nights Tv report was saying they shouldn't be saying this as the evidence was not direct test results but other?

150 people across how many clubs? = X per club or when considering that Essendon have a serious problem then that leaves how many per the rest?

Personally, the match-fixing seems to be the bigger issue.
