Hayne comes to mind in the backs, and before him Gasnier had it. The rest usually look nervous and lost.

Funny you mention Hayne, i have a few QLD mates and every year around this time the first player they dont want us to pick is Hayne.

Yep I'm one of them. People forget how good he is becuse he's usually surrounded by garbage in blue/yellow.

I'd love to see Ferguson get a crack on the wing. Big, brash, strong, and seems more than capable in defense. As things stand this would be my team:

1. Jarryd Hayne
2. Brett Morris
3. Michael Jennings
4. Josh Morris
5. Blake Ferguson
6. Todd Carney
7. Adam Reynolds
8. Paul Gallen
9. Robbie Farah
10. James Tamou
11. Greg Bird
12. Anthony Watmough
13. Trent Merrin

14. Andrew Fifita
15. Aaron Woods
16. Luke Lewis
17. John Sutton

Obviously it won't look anything like that...especially the halves and Sutton on the bench.

I'm going with

Hayne
Fergo
Jmoz
Jennings
Gordon
Carney
Pearce

for the backline

Here's my orgiginal team list

1. Hayne
2. Merritt
3. Morris
4. Jennings
5. Uate
6. Carney/Maloney
7. Pearce
8. Tamou
9. Farah
10. Mannah (think his effort to come back this week and aim up against Tamou and Scott and hold his own will convince Daley he has the ticker and attitude NSW are looking for, something most of us already knew)
11. Watmough
12. Bird
13. Gallen (if Gallen is out, then Merrin to lock for mine with grant or Stewart to the bench)

14. Lewis
15. Merrin
16. Fafita
17. Gidley (I'd have someone else, but Gidley will be there)

Just watching NRL 360 and Ikin and Kent were discussing the NSW backline. Now obviously we don't really know how much Kent is in the know but according to him:

- Hayne will be fullback
- Ferguson and Merritt are massive wing chances (the media seems fascinated with pushing Merrit's case, I can't understand it)
- Gordon is also a possibility
- Uate appears to be on the outer (a real shame for me since he only really had 1 bad game out of the 5 he played)

Welcome aboard! (Unless you're a Souths fan, in which case please leave lol :p)

That's a good team. Unfortunately i suspect you're right and we will have to put up with Gidley. Farah is an 80 min hooker so Gidley's just window dressing on the bench really. Id much prefer an impact backrower like Sutton who is obviously also more than capable at 5/8.

But alas we'll be stuck with Golden Boy Gidley.

Also Mannah wouldnt let anyone down. Tough as nails prop who does the hard yards.

he's the scape goat which is a joke. the defence broke down inside him and he was left exposed.

I agree, and I've tried bringing this up before but the perception among most fans remains that every try scored down his wing was automatically his fault. Never mind that on one of those tries NSW had a man in the bin and him and J. Moz were faced with a 4 on 2, etc.

Of course that's not to say he was never at fault. His failure to defuse the bomb that let to the Hannant try was a shocker.

It's a shame everything good he did, including his 2011 series, seems to have been forgotten though. He was one of NSW's best after Gallen and a couple of others that series.

Why is Kurt Gidley seen as such a good player? Sure, he's fairly solid, but nothing more than that. When Craig Bellamy was NSW coach, he seemed intent on making Gidley fullback and captain, when his performances seemed to suggest he deserved otherwise. He's nothing more than a decent bench utility.

I think the reason he was so underwhelming in the Bellamy days was because he had too much pressure placed on him. As the utility, he has so much less to do, which is what he should be comfortable with.
