My ideal team:

Hayne
Gordon
Lyon
Morris
Morris
Carney/J Reynolds
Carney/ A Reynolds
Stewart
Lewis
Bird
Gallen
Farah
Tamou

Grant
Woods/Mannah
Watmough
Sims/Willaims

Obviously Lyon wont play though so throw Jennings in as his replacement.

What do people think of Wade Graham over Glenn Stewart?

Arguments for being;

1) He's just as capable as a ball player
2) Just as good in defence
3) Makes more metres
4) More capable hole runner & tight runner

Stewart hasn't really done anything to date at origin level, he had yet again another average series and failed to really create anything. For whatever reason (I assume his club performances) people seem to think he's a worthy incumbent.

I think ball playing amongst the forwards is somewhat nullified by the faster pace of the game and higher quality levels of defence, given it's Stewart's strength I've never been in favour of his selection from the begining. What I do like about Graham is his versatility, if the option is there to spread the ball he has the ability but he also has the ability to play in tight and help out with the go forward and run lines on the fringes for his halves. IMO he's just more suited to the origin style of football and both are fairly solid fringe defenders.

I have big raps on Wade Graham and wouldn't be against him being selected, for all the reasons you listed RWB. Although he is not an Origin level 5/8 he can also provide cover there in an injury crisis.

However I rate our top five back row options as Bird, Lewis, Gallen, Watmough and T-Rex - I'd be happy to pick him over Glenn but as of right now, I'd be reluctant to pick him over one of those five. 2013 is a far way away though, it's unlikely all five will be available, as well as Gal possibly playing in the front row.

Is anybody else not buying into the Josh Reynolds hype? I know we are desperate, but to me Josh's defence is a HUGE worry. I recognise halves aren't picked to be tackling machines but his missed tackles are very high, even for a half. He's also playing behind a forward pack that takes a lot of the ball playing pressure away from him, and who get a great roll on which makes his job a bit easier. I love the way he plays the game but I'm wary to throw him into SoO after his limited first grade experience at 5/8.

Players like Fensom, Sims, Graham will be our future backrow, which is really strong. They should all get there shots within the next 1-3 years

14. Ryan Hinchcliffe

16. Anthony Watmough/Tim Grant
17. Tariq Sims

Based on current form.

Fensom to me is another Fitzy/Hindy type who should be in the team for years to come as the workhorse. Gallen can play his usual game up front, while having a proper prop rotation for once with Tamou and Woods, possibly Sims and Grant. Tony Williams, if fit, needs more game time. Luke Lewis is a player who could play 80 minutes, needs more game time as well.

Pearce has had enough chances surely. Reynolds deserves a shot.
Josh Reynolds at the moment over Carney, however if Carney finds his form again next year/recovers from injury could get a shot at either 6 or 7.

Merritt to me deserves a chance over Uate or Morris. And I think Morris has played better than Uate this year. Hayne needs to be in there, Jennings and Lawrence deserve a spot only if they recapture their long missing form.

So this is based on current form yet Lewis is in the side and Jennings and Grant dropped?

mmmm ok....

Although I am a Roosters fan, I do think that Pearce has more to his game than Adam Reynolds. Reynolds to me seems to be a lot like Wallace, or Walsh - a kick-happy halfback with good organizational skills, but lacking that extra toughness or edge. Not sure if Pearce is the answer though.

1. Hayne - offers more of an all-round game than Stewart
2. Uate (right)
3. Morris (right) - out of position on the right, but has to be picked on form
4. Jennings (left)
5. Morris (left)
6. Carney / J Reynolds
7. Pearce / A Reynolds
8. Woods / Merrin
9. Farah
10. Tamou
11. Watmough (right)
12. Lewis (left)
13. Gallen

14. Hinchcliffe / J Reynolds
15. Bird
16. Williams / Sims
17. Grant

18. Fensom

The other option would be Gallen to prop, Fensom to lock, and Woods / Merrin as 18th man.

Halves are still a worry, we have some potential young halves (A, J Reynolds, Sam Williams) coming through but they still aren't experienced enough nor probably good enough (not that Pearce is great) to be thrown into the arena yet.
I personally think Mullen (might be biased) or Campese (if he can return to form) would be a better option then Carney at 5/8 but the 'consistency in the halves' favours Todd for now.

I didn't like Gallen playing at lock again in game 2 and 3, much prefer him playing at prop and he doesn't have to play a full game there either.

J Morris was good at right centre, but I think a centre combo of J Morris and Hayne is better. It would also see J and B Morris play on the same side which would be interesting.

I also replaced T Sims with T-Rex as I think Sims will become the better player (and probably is better at his peak now), even though they play differently. Fensom I chose because every team needs a player like him and he is NSW's best.

Pending form and recovery from injury, I'd probably put Campese in at 6 and shift Carney to 7.

Unlucky to miss out:

Woods
Fensom
Merrin
Ferguson
Probably a few more I've forgotten

I didn't drop Grant. Same as I didn't drop Watmough.

Lewis should be a certainty now and I don't think Jennings deserves to be in the side over any of the other outside backs.

After watching last nights game it reminded me of how bad of a decision it was to put buhrer on the bench as a utility / back up hooker. His service last night was below average and every game ive seen him at hooker it has been average.

Hinchcliffe (as most of us suggested) would have been 100x times the better option. He is tougher, tackles, runs better and has more more experience. The style in which he plays hooker reminds me of Buderus.
Even if he wasnt needed at hooker all of those attributes above would have served well in the backrow.

I agree with this. Buhrer is a pretty good player, but Hinchcliffe is that much further ahead and would be first choice hooker at most other clubs. FWIW:

1. Stewart
2. Hayne
3. Jennings
4. Lawrence/Morris
5. Uate
6. Carney
7. Pearce
8. Tamou
9. Farah
10. Gallen
11. Lewis
12. Bird
13. Fensom

14. Grant
15. Sims
16. Merrin/Williams
17. J Reynolds

Backs:
Fairly straightforward. I've added Lawrence into the mix because I think he is a better player than Morris when in form. He'll have to hit the ground running to take Morris's spot though. Benefit of the doubt to Uate.

Halves:
I'm just as frustrated with Pearce as everyone else, but I'm hoping a new club coach (he's had Smith the last few years) will bring the best out of him and I want us to have the same set of halves for more than one series.

Forwards:
Pretty much the same as last year. Fensom in. He is made for Origin. He is more than a statistics player although he does average 43 tackles a game, 103 metres and regularly plays 80 minutes (there aren't too many games under 80). He scraps for everything. Some of his higher profile peers need to take a leaf out of his book...

Bench:
It's a pretty young bench but I think they are up to the task. I've dumped Watmough, Stewart and Creagh. They haven't done too much in Origin for a long, long time and seem to be living off past reputations. Either Merrin or Williams depending on form. Reynolds is my utility. I'd slot him in at hooker when Farah needs a break. He's played hooker before and always seems to come up with a big play. Before you jump down my throat about his defence, my plan was to shift Bird up to hooker in defence with Reynolds defending a little wider.
