OT: ASADA and Drugs in NRL

If other players are shitty they were given up then they should think what they would've done. Risk your career or risk a small ban and able to come back later

when the asada investigation first started they all had a choice to come forward and own up but they chose to keep mum and hope it passed over they must have known there was at least a chance they would get caught out eventually

Meanwhile the AFL say that it's unlikely that players will be charged because no records of who took what were kept.

Something's not right with the whole AFL thing, you know. :?

Will be interesting to see if any team mates could also be in trouble....

Any Canberra players been acting erractic lately ?

Maybe trying to distance themselves from the club?

:sarcasm:

ahh thank god for the Raiders & Sharks.

Takes some of the spotlight off what a shamble the Eels have become for a little while.

My understanding (via the Canberra ABC radio) is that there's a fair chance that Earl's issues occurred while he was at Penrith, and relate to a clinic in Blacktown.

if they had any balls there would be a mandatory blood test for all players but that might uncover a few too many cockroaches under the table

Earl
Carney
Ferguson
Dugan

Canberra have a production line of f**kwits.

To be fair...they only produced Carney and Dugan. They imported the other two. They made a rod for their own back when they persistently cut Carney slack (while firing other players involved in the same acts).

Incidentally, the pub where Carney pissed on some other patrons recently had a beaut brawl involving some of the Brumbies extended squad...but they kept the lid on that very well.

Blood tests would be a bit pointless at this late date wouldn't they? and aren't there no tests for peptides at this stage.

Interesting to see what comes of this, there must be some very nervous players now. Wonder if any of them will do a backflip and turn themselves in.

its not a case of stop using and you're clean next week traces can stay in your system for months and it also gives you lots of nice samples for when there IS a test for peptides

You can't just dog people like this. If you do you're likely to end up in concrete boots.

This isn't the mafia. I can't see anything like that happening in NRL. I mean obviously he has a degree of loyalty to the players but he also should be thinking of his own career

Not sure the current or previous owners of that pub would ever admit it was the same pub.

Penrith have had a pretty big player clean out since 2011 when Earl was there.

Only nine players remain from their 2011 squad, meaning 20 players including Earl moved on. Of course he could have allegedly trafficked to players from any team, not necessarily his teammates at the time.

Interestingly (or not), of Earl's 19 teammates of 2011 that are no longer with Penrith:

- one of them is with us (Joseph)
- three are playing in UK Super League and one in UK rugby union
- two are playing with Redcliffe Dolphins, one with Macquarie Scorpions, and one not at all
- the remaining ten are in NRL with the following clubs... Sharks x 2, Tigers x 2, Roosters x 3 (including one with feeder club), and Newcastle, Broncos and Storm.

Some clarification is needed here.

1) Essendon got punished by AFL for governance issues, not about whether they took banned substance. Possible player bans will come after final ASADA report is completed (Danky will be interviewed soon).

2) No paperwork at Essendon doesn't mean no punishment. ASADA may punish every player on the team if they can't identify who took what, but if they have enough circumstantial evidence.

3) Let's not stoop to El Diablo's paranoid-schizoid position. If AFL players were injected with banned substance(s), they will be punished by ASADA.

4) More to come for NRL it seems. Hopefully isolated instances of cheating. For those who are anti-ASADA/govt, take a breath. The process is a long one but ongoing.

.

Theoretically, yes. But the chance of them punishing a player (as opposed to a coach/medico/ administrator) without very well-corroborated evidence that he took a banned substance is pretty limited, and if they did would immediately be challenged in outside courts. We know, for instance, that one Essendon player took no part in any of this....so would he be suspended?

If it is widespread as indicated and they can determine that the majority of players were involved, but they cannot pinpoint individual players, WADA will lobby the Australian Government to put pressure on the AFL for Essendon to come up with some 'scapegoats'. If this doesnt occur, further pressure will be applied on the AFL to suspend the entire Club from the competition. The AFL just needs to decide what is more important, National and various State Government support or Essendon in the competition.
