OT: ASADA and Drugs in NRL

If it is widespread as indicated and they can determine that the majority of players were involved, but they cannot pinpoint individual players, WADA will lobby the Australian Government to put pressure on the AFL for Essendon to come up with some 'scapegoats'. If this doesnt occur, further pressure will be applied on the AFL to suspend the entire Club from the competition. The AFL just needs to decide what is more important, National and various State Government support or Essendon in the competition.

Suspending the club from the competition, and suspending individual players from the competition are manifestly different things. You cannot take away somebody's right to earn their living because some of their mates might have done something.

if this was a police case and his mates committed a crime which he knew about and didnt report he could be charged with being an accessory after the fact im not sure if asada has the same powers

Even if they did have such powers, they would need to produce evidence that the player(s) involved knew (or should reasonably have known) that what they were observing was in breach of ASADA's rules. It's hard to see that sticking, given the apparent role of the club's long standing and otherwise well-respected doctor. Alternately, there may be possible sanctions if it could be shown that players made false declarations to ASADA....but I don't think that has been suggested (could be wrong).

Sounds like a massive beat up to me.

The guy ordered some blood tests for HGH - no suggestion he administered anything - and was immeidately sacked because they hadn't asked for him to do that.

They are throwing around the fact that that the blood test results were found on the phone of a known criminal. That's a long way from the club having done anything wrong and a long way from any allegation that any player took or was given anything banned

Perhaps, a beat up about the blood test result.

The fact that it was found on the phone of a known criminal is worrying.
