i think it's still 50/50 as to what he is going to do. And i believe if the Raiders pony up the same figure we have offered he will stay. Who wouldn't stay with your mates in a place you are comfortable. Money is almost always the reason a player that is wanted at one club chooses to leave and if that is taken out of the equation then the only reason he would leave i believe would be a sense of commitment to a contract he signed however his past history shows that would be unlikely. I bevieve raiders are in the box seat ATM

You'd think Raiders supporters would be upset with their management for allowing Papps to be signed up else where. They should have wrapped him a very long time ago. But instead they come in here and take it on us .... f**king hilarious inbreds they are.

No one is taking it on you. We're just repeating what is being reported locally and connecting dots like you guys are.

If Papalii leaves, then i certainly wont blame our management, we gave him a fair deal and it was fairly and squarely beaten. That's life... but thanks to a ridiculous rule, we are now in a position to take Papalii's misleading manager out of the equation and work to the figure we believe will keep him in canberra... we'll see if we can get there.

I agree with that summation but i think its you guys in the box seat. He's signed a deal with you and it will be tough sledding for him to front the media and tell them he's turned his back on that because the raiders have come through with the goods.

You've got a signed deal right now. We've got to come up with the dollars and convince him to break his word to another club. That put you guys in the lead for me right now.

yeah i suppose it's just hard to be confident given our recent luck with targeted signings

On the first point, i would agree. Except i suspect that statement was drafted before the current issues were raised. Current issue's being Canberra's revised contract and attempts to get 3rd party deals. Which takes the dollars and cents away from it, and it comes back to where he'd prefer to be.
You guys cited T-rex earlier, how he was really desperate to stay but ultimately you guys couldnt get it done, do you think had you guys been able to find the cash to match Manly's offer, he'd have left? I dont think so. That's where i think we stand with Papalii, if we can match, he might stay. If we cant, he will be gone.

2nd point. That could be the case but local journo's with proven track records of knowing what is going on inside canberra camp, not one of them, about 3-4 of them, have all suggested their sources are saying he's having 2nd thoughts. He might well be just focusing on football and this is all one big smoke storm... but there is a hell of a lot of smoke for no fire in that case, wouldnt you agree?

We've got journo's talking about him having 2nd thoughts, we've got reports of his manager misleading the raiders on his offer, we've got 3rd parties rallying to the cause and we've got a Raiders CEO saying yesterday it's his belief Papalii wants to stay and we're very committed to getting the dollars together to make that possible..

A lot of smoke Bartman.

So if these Journo's know what goes on inside out at Canberra, why didn't they report in paper that Papalii signed with Parra 2 weeks ago?????

Because they knew nothing

if i'm josh papalii the big question i would be asking myself right now is "where were all these big 3rd party deals before i signed with the eels"

maybe the raiders are pulling out all the stops to try and retain him........or maybe they tried to re-sign him on the cheap and have only opened the chequebook all the way when it looked like he was leaving

Parra is the best thing that's happened to opposition players and their managers. We have lifted the asking price of so many players that their clubs have had to pay overs to keep them.

Papali was only on 100k, we could force Faiders to fork out 500k per season.

Just because the raiders are saying they are out chasing 3rd party deals doesn't mean they are. Just like because a "statement" said that Josh was looking forward to coming to parramatta doesn't mean he said it from his mouth.
It could be a case of Josh saying he was 100% sure anymore so parra went announced his signing or the raiders really didn't show enough interest or money at the time josh and his manager were looking to secure his future.
infact no one here knows what is 100% true and neither do the media, they are only fed what ethier club wants the public to hear.

Yep - I agree with this. The fact that people think that Josh actually uttered the words in the news article in question shows a staggering lack of understanding of how the media works.

Also, if any Raiders fan thinks that it is certain that he is staying at Canberra they are also kidding themselves.

In short, there is nothing more certain than things being uncertain.

Anyone talking authoritatively about anything or discussing things in absolute terms is a plonker and making stuff up. I don't think anyone knows exactly what is going on. It is like being at a Roulette wheel, if you pick an outcome you have a 50% chance of being right.

Actually I'm sure I read something that said that Roulette is closer to 49-51 but I digress....

I agree with this. Nothing is certain yet but you imagine it will be pretty hard for Papali to back out. Stranger things have happened though...

Can't be 50-50 simply because you have red, black and 0 to contend with.

Dave Funer has said in today's paper that Papali wants to stay at Canberra.

He's not coming IMO, it will cost them though.

Seems that Canberra are doing what they accused the Eels of. It's starting to sound like another Folau story. Almost landed and then gets away. Oh well.
