there is already a long player exemption close to 500k, it may go up slightly pending rlpa demands. that's not a revelation.
Its 200k to cover the whole squad, so it amounts to f**k all really in the scheme of things.

i agree it needs to be lifted, but there's a fine line between how far they go with lifting exemptions to a point where there's no point in having a cap at all.
They already allow clubs unlimited exemptions, as long as they source a third party to pay it.
they allow non club affiliated 3rd parties, simply because preventing it would be against the law
So you argue against lifting exemptions, but are aware that clubs are at the same time able to source unlimited exempt payments for players?
That Crawley article in yesterday's Telegraph was in very poor taste. It was a very obvious attempt to unsettle the Roosters by accusing them of cheating, before their match with Canberra. Crawley's brother is on the Raiders' coaching staff and he should have disclosed that information at the bottom of the article.
Very poor form on Crawley's part and I'd love to see him sacked over it.
Better the nrl funded u16's, u18's and u20's. Then you could have a draft at u20 without gould whinging.
I'm always astounded at newspaper articles speculating about the state of a club's salary cap, based purely on estimated valuations of players in today's marketplace.
Just last week the Sydney Roosters were the subject of such examination. There can be no doubting this is a glamour roster and if you were trying to put this squad together based on today's market values, of course, the salary cap would be bulging at its limits. However, the vast majority of the Roosters squad are playing in 2015 on contracts they signed well before many of them developed into representative-class players, or even first graders.
Some signed their current contracts as far back as 2012. Their roster is one primarily developed from within: 11 of their best 17 players made their NRL debut at the Roosters. Three others played a total of less than 10 first-grade matches between them at other NRL clubs.
Only James Maloney, Michael Jennings and Blake Ferguson joined the club as established NRL players. Their oldest player in that best 17 (Sam Moa) is just 28, while their youngest (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) will be 22 in June.
If you can identify talent at an early age and back those players to develop into quality first-graders, your players' valuations will nearly always be rising. As a result, players who sit in your cap on contracts signed years earlier will always be in the cap well below their market value. If you want a playing roster like the Roosters, then you need to develop it, because it's far too expensive to buy.
It is what any club craving success should be trying to achieve and it is certainly not something to sneer at.

Phil Gould.
Salary Cap isn't broken. Some clubs just suck at talent identification and development
So based on that the Roosters team will start to be broken up in the next year or two.

but they may unearth the next daniel tupou RTS etc, which they have had a habit of doing....they are poaching other club's best juniors and then "bringing them through", which is why the draft is being argued.
Tupou was a reject and was told he wouldn't make it in the NRL. RTS's talent was recognised by the Roosters while he was still at school. I believe he was playing union as well as league.
ok i appreciate the nitpicking...
try boyd cordner then who was pinched from newy despite his well known talent at the time
or pearce and evans from the tiggers
or jake friend moving to sydney when he was 15
...and RTS as you say who was in the middle of a rugby code tug of war for his signature.
etc
